THE DIVINE CONSPIRACY is the third studio album made by EPICA plus is their first concept album (Yes, I like that kind of albums, they're WAY cooler, FIGHT ME!) which main theme is God, yeah a God that made a lot of religions just to fuck up with people to teach them a valuable lesson... Calm down mister Nolan, you can just tell people, you don't have to make a Godly complicated plot to... HEY, THE DIVINE CONSPIRACY, I understood that. Founded by Mark Jansen, lead guitarist, and with the amazing leadership and vocals of Simone Simons (which debuted with the band at the age of 17... is this? Is this love guys?) the band brings a powerful case to the symphonic metal sub-genre.

THE OBSESSIVE DEVOTION (yeah we started with all we have) is the second track of the album (yeah, the first one was an intro too, deal with it), have a mix of clean and harsh vocals which is used as a dialog between a god and a believer while they have a kind of existential argument... and it doesn't go well, but you know how he gets sometimes... dude... where did you get that?... And do you really need it... I mean you're god... Whatever

NEVER ENOUGH is an amazing, powerful piece, they explore the never-ending need to feel complete and how this can be used by religions (and by anyone else) to manipulate you into doing what they want, here the contrast between clean and harsh vocals are not so prominent, but what they accomplish with it is amazing as well, and all of it inspired by our angsty needy... needs... I'm quite a poet

THE FOOLS DAMNATION is for sure one that was controversial, it blends their uique metal style with some kinds of Arabic rhythms and because of this it was viewed as a critique of Arabic religions, and it is a critique but of the fundamentalisms of some religious cults that manipulate via fear and ignorance to do what they want with the population, this touched me deeply because one of my ex's did this to me, I HOPE YOU CHOKE YOU MEAN BITCH! God? What are you doing? Not that kind of ex... Oh for YOU sake!

This album is amazing, Simone's voice is amazing, the lyrics are amazing and the whole composition is AMAZING, the first time I listen to it I barely believe it, I always liked Epica but I think this is their most important pieces, and as their first concept album I think the paved the way for their other great works.
