AEGs are dominating the airsoft world

in #airsoft6 years ago

The demand for airsoft replicas with the AEG systems is huge. First, let's make it clear what an AEG is. It stands for Automatic Electric Gun. These toys have a shit load of parts in them. Like with everything else, there are the cheap ones and the expensive ones. Usually, the best advice for beginners is to buy a cheap one. So if you're disappointed in the sport than you didn't lose much. But if it is love at the first game you're fucked. Here is why: you quickly realise that you can make it shoot faster, get a more effective range, a better grouping and make it more accurate. That's only the internals and it will drill a hole in your wallet. You have to get some spare batteries and a charger for them. You also have to watch out for the weather. Rain is your worst nightmare. Well, electronics and water is a story we all know. Frankly, the thought that a Rifle replica has batteries, gearbox, cables inside gives me the hibbie jibbies. It's not that I don't like them, but cables and gears are not proper for a replica.

Powers source

It is powered by a big and long battery that is hidden in the replica. Usually, there located in the buttstock or in the handguard. So your comen batteries that you can purse in the local supermarket won't work. At least not where I live. There are some AEGs with a property battery and charger. Nimh, lipo and nunchuck battery - that's what you need for your toy.
Voltage wise, we are looking from 7.4 to 9.9 V and different capacity that is measured in mAh.

High torque motor

There is no fun without this important part. A high torque motor is usually placed in the pistol grip of your assault rifle. If we are talking about an M4 replica then it is in the pistol grip. This thing is obviously hooked to the battery and connected to the trigger. There are some slit deals between the trigger pull, motor and the gearbox. Nothing big, but it's there. There are some cool upgrades for the trigger and motor. It's a small electronic device called mosfet. The Mosfet can be programmed to make your gunshot 5 bbs with one trigger pull for example. You can set it up how you like.

The gearbox

Like every gearbox, it has some gear inside. There are plenty of parts, for my taste maybe too many. What it does it pumps air to throw a little hole and makes the BBs flay. The frame holds everything in place trigger, motor, gears, piston, spring and many more. This is where you can pimp the hell out of the AEGs. Some have a pneumatic or an electronic blowback system instaled for a better shooting experience. I am not a big fan of AEGs because of sound it produces will you are shooting it. I would comper it with a cheap cordless drill.

Hop-up

Without this device, airsoft wouldn't make any sense. The purpose of the hop-up is to give the BB backspin. As a result, your effective range will be greater without increasing velocity of the projectile or BB. It is placed between the inner barrel and gearbox. Most of the hop-ups have a deal on it for easier adjustment on the filed. No matter what platform you own, you always have to adjust it. Except if you run an airsoft shotgun with a multi-shot or 3 BB bursts. Those have fixed hop-up or non-adjustable hop-ups.

AEG magazine

There are many tips of AEG magazines in the airsoft world. Every replica has an authentic looking magazine. The difference is in the capacity, Low cap, mid or high cap. With a high cap, you rule, you have 500 BB at your disposal and no need for a reload. Meaning you have the tactical advantage in a game. But if your antiseptic in a "Military simulation" game you have to carry low cap magazines.
