There are different patterns of hair loss, as well as different causes that are associated with alopecia: different diseases, use of drugs, hereditary syndromes, among others. Alopecia usually affects men more than women.

Within the most frequent male baldness, there is androgenic or androgenetic alopecia, which is caused by the effects of some male sex hormones, mainly the one called DHT. In this type of alopecia a fairly clear pattern of the receding of the hairline and the thinning of the hair on the crown area is experienced.

Female baldness is also caused by female sex hormones, with thinning of the hair in the upper part of the head, being more frequent post-menopausal women.

You should know that there are hereditary syndromes such as: congenital atrophy, Menkes syndrome and trichorhinophalange syndrome, which can evidently be the cause of alopecia. And the pathology known as trichotillomania, is considered as a type of alopecia, since it is based on the person affected by a mania is pulled the hairs to itself

Systemic diseases of endocrine origin, infectious, Lupus erythematosus or nutritional deficit, emotional stress, febrile diseases or childbirth, can also cause alopecia. It is estimated that when alopecia originates for these reasons, it can last up to 6 months and then fully recover.

Alopecia can also be caused by the use of hair dryers, metal combs or any other element capable of generating lesions on the scalp.

The use of drugs and drugs also cause alopecia, for example vitamin A in large doses, cytostatics, antithyroid drugs, anticoagulants, mercury and valproic acid are able to produce alopecia, once suspending its use the alopecia disappears.

Important to mention alopecia called anagen effluvium, which consists of the total loss of hair and can affect the whole body, as it is caused by chemical treatments used in the treatment of cancer. The telogen effluvium, occurs when you experience a thinning of the hair in the hairs of the entire body and often present as a side effect of a chronic stress medication.

Alopecia areata, called uneven baldness, because there are round patches on the head totally depopulated of hair. This type of alopecia commonly affects adolescents and young adults. Their common cause is related to the immune system and is hereditary.
