Top 10 AFL Fantasy options between $300k - $400k
Hi all,
Welcome to my next blog where I am reviewing some of the best cheap Fantasy buys for the up and coming AFL season.
For this blog I am doing my top 10 Cash Cows that are available between $300k and $400k.
10: J Garlett $319k Forward - Carlton
Here is a bit of a left field one. Garlett was taken at pick 78 by Carlton after deciding he is ready to return to football.
Was a former highly rated junior who was originally drafted by the Gold Coast at pick 15 in the 2014 Draft. He played 17 games with the Gold Coast before quitting the club and standing out of the game.
In his 17 games he showed he is a mercurial talent and he does have a Fantasy high of 111 in a game.
Given he is a mature age recruit the Blues will be expecting him to play senior Footy in 2018 so another to keep an eye
on in the JLT.
9: H Balic $346k Midfielder/Forward - Melbourne
Was pick 38 by Freo in the 2015 Draft which looked a bit of a steal given how much he starred in Under 18's.
Was never settled in WA and eventually home sickness led him to being traded to the Demons in the off season.
Played the 4 games early last season and had a 91 + a 73 to show what he can do.
Looked comfortable at the level and now he is back in his home state he could easily push his way into the Demons best 22 given he offers them a different sort of Midfielder to the real physical inside ball winners they possess.
One to keep a close eye on in the JLT series.
8: H Morrison $396k Defender - Hawthorn
Taken at pick 74 in the 2016 Draft, Morrison had a brilliant first season at VFL level averaging 21 disposals and was rewarded with a debut in Round 23.
He made the most of it to, getting 21 disposals and 75 Dream Team points.
With all their Premiership success and high profile Trades in recent year the Hawks recruiting Department has had plenty of practise looking for bargains late in the draft. They might of just found one here.
He sneaks into my top 10 for this range on potential. Keep an eye on him in the JLT series.
7: E Hipwood $321k Forward - Brisbane
Most pundits agree this athletic tall forward is an up and coming superstar of the competition.
Only has a 48 point average but expect that to increase this year as he has another pre season under his belt and will get a lot more support in that lions forward line. Should be ready to explode and at such a low price, he should be a nice money earner.
6: J Bowes $351k Defender - Gold Coast
Supremely gifted elite Midfielder taken in the 1st round of 2016 draft and came out of the Gold Coast Academy.
Is entering his 2nd season and should be ready to cement his spot in the Suns Midfield.
Not exactly sure why AFL Fantasy has him listed as a Defender but given it is a harder part of the ground to find cheap talent that is a huge plus.
Played 11 games in a struggling Suns team last season to get a taste for the level and did some nice things despite not setting the world on fire.
He looked good in the AFLX the other night too and I will be keenly watching his JLT series.
5: C Ellis-Yolmen $389k Midfielder - Adelaide
Played 2 games late in the 2016 season and looked like yet another Midfield find for the Crows.
Was expected to become a regular in the Crows side in 2017 but an ACL in the JLT series ended his year early.
Ellis-Yolmen has had a full pre season and is fully fit now. I expect him to put his hand up in the JLT series and a real chance of lining up in their Round 1 side. His price is a little steep given the risk but if he stars in the JLT he will tempt a
few.
4: J Ceglar $342k Ruck - Hawthorn
Did an ACL late in the 2016 season and missed the whole 2017 season. Before that he was developing nicely as an athletic Ruck that gets around the ground nicely to win touches. Is a tad undersized for a ruck so won't get those cheap hit out points but definitely worth considering as a cheaper 2nd Ruck option.
3: T Nicholls $381k Ruck - Gold Coast
What a bargain price for a very talented Ruck. Injuries ruined his 2017 season and he could not get on the park thus losing his number 1 ruck spot to Witts as a result.
Is athletically gifted and back in full training but we are yet to know if Dew will elect to play with 2 Rucks each week.
If he is lining up Round 1 he will be in my team for sure.
2: H Himmelberg $347k Defender - GWS
Looks a star in the making after a break out season which culminated in a 4 goal performance in that qualifying final against the Crows.
He was a huge presence again in the Prelim Final against the Tigers when he could of had a bag but missed too many shots, to finish with 2 goals and 5 behinds. Those two matches were Fantasy scores of 75 and 74.
He will be entering his 3rd season of AFL footy in 2018 and he has played 13 games now, so will be ready to take another step forward. I expect him to not only cement himself in GWS' best 22 but I also expect him to be one of the most exciting young players in the competition.
He can play Forward or Defence and will likely swing between both, so owners should get a nice dual position upgrade later as well.
1: A Christensen $331k Forward - Brisbane
Has had a couple of injury plagued years. Is a an 80-90 points a game scorer when up and running.
Has had a full pre season, is in the lion leadership group and will be a very important forward for them this year who will also get stints on the ball. He already showed snippets of his brilliance in the Lions AFLX triumph the other night.
Christensen is a must have this year at that bargain price.
I will be back soon with my top 10 No Mans Land priced players next who fall in that difficult $400k - $600k bracket.
