October ProgBlog #4: cartwheels are harder than spins
And that's pretty much the extent of this progblog XD
This week has been pretty slow on all fronts. 9yo had a cold again so we couldn't go out and do much, so we just chilled and reconnected, which of course meant not much work getting done. It also wasn't helped by having to make a hundred million phone calls to government departments. I don't do phones so it was exhausting and I had to go hide for a little while afterwards. I did get some villainous upgoats done, but even though I made some big swatches it didn't occur to me that I'd end up with a foxgoat til after I'd done it. Sigh.
It's kinda cute but at the same time I'm not sure a foxgoat is what I should be doing so I'm going to sit on that one for a while and see how I feel next week.
Oh yes, cartwheels.
Spins are easy because you just rotate and make sure you got the timing right. Cartwheels do this silly inversion thing. Didn't need quite as many keyframes as the rolypoly from earlier, but currently because there's no breakdowns it looks like a bunnyhop cartwheel. With eldritch deformations. I really should have used the pose library for this one but fell into the same trap of well they're only going a short distance.
It's all good!
And here's my other Blender screen just because.
This other screen lives on my big monitor, the one I'm usually dropping screenies of is on my Cintiq.
I think I need 3-4 cartwheels to the corner and then I think I've got time for a small lift in the corner they're heading to before Zara's tumbling run. I haven't worked out how I'm going to handle Rei's yet as hers may not cover quite as much ground, Zara might have to bounce back to spot the backflip. I'll see once I get past this bit.
I also need to get back into 3dC and finish Zara.
Actually progressing is still feeling a little bit unreal, might be better next year as I did spend a couple of years redoing and this is the first year I'm not.

Nooo, phones are bad enough, but add government departments and that's got to be a recipe for a nightmare!
It wasn't my idea of fun, but they were all very helpful, and it wasn't nearly as bad as a couple of weeks ago where I was transferred through what felt like half of Department of Human Services XD
I always get a feeling that I've underestimated just how complicated this kind of work is. I think I'd just give up and make that blob above the upgoats head my upgoat cartwheel!
And hope the cub feels better soon!
I quite like the animation part of it, I find getting the timing right the hardest bit especially if it's stuff I can't do (like currently I'm trying to work out if a couple of bits are too slow but I won't know for sure til I've put the breakdowns in because it looks really awkward shooting between the key poses).

Well I love your foxgoat and I agree with your assessment that cartwheels are higher on the difficulty scale, though spins are harder than vegging out with a cuppa, so it's all relative ;)
As I said to spodey in real life I actually find cartwheels easier than spins :D and vegging out with a cuppa definitely the easiest of the lot! Foxgoat is staying now I think, it's grown on me XD just need to do the name now and hopefully the person it's for likes it too.

If it makes you feel better, I sat in a bank for 2.5 hours today to open an account (it's not like Australia where you can just do it online or in about 15mins at a branch). I got it though so it wasn't a total waste of time I guess.

It doesn't make me feel better, I don't like anyone having to do things like that XD 2.5hrs to open a freaking account is way overkill though what century did you step into? Are they trying to justify unnecessary levels of admin? Is this how they create jobs? D:

My understanding is a lot of it is bullshit pressure from US banks. But still, it is ridiculous. I needed 3 personal references and a bank reference (which I didn't have cos all the banks I have accounts with were like WTF? we can't give out personal information). So in the end I got around that bit.
But they also want to know about money coming in and out on a monthly basis and if you go over I have to email the woman who set my account up. It's bullshit. Fintech and blockchain needs to get here now.

Hehehe foxgoat is cute though, and due to the redness, I can imagine that it could be a mischievous one as well :D.
It is totally awesome that you can progress through despite the horror of government phone stuff and having your child sick on top of that. It's almost like super power ;).

Fortunately it wasn't a serious sickness, he was fine curled up in bed with his ipad or in front of the tv or playing quietly with his lego and getting irritated with how often he had to blow his nose so wasn't much extra work :) And slow progress is better than no progress right :D

Phones are like my archnemesis (nemesi?) so I know how you felt. Why did you have to make so many calls? I hope Cub's feeling a lot better now.
Cartwheels are a nightmare. Just thinking about it, I could already see how much work it is to make it look plausible. Gravity, all the stuff that moves where, a lot of different moving parts just to get from point A to point B! I have no doubt you'll make it work, MATEahari. Hopefully, in the next decade or so.

Well, I had to ring a government department about Issue 1, and while on the phone with Nice Lady 1 it came out that I a couple more related issues, so after resolving Issue 1 Nice Lady 1 transferred me to Nice Lady 2, who tried to help me but couldn't figure out how deal with Issue 2, and after a couple of unsuccessful calls she then transferred me to Nice Lady 3 who specialised in Issue 2 and she was able to help me out, and when I mentioned I still had to do Issue 3 in another department she then transferred me to Nice Lady 4 and by the time I got there I was so brainfried I'd almost forgotten why I got transferred there XD
Then some days later when I got a confirmation letter from Issue 1 I noticed they got my name wrong so I had to ring back and get Nice Lady 5 to fix it, but there was a portion that she couldn't fix so transferred me to Nice Lady 6 who was able to fix it everywhere else it was wrong.

Sheesh! That's a lot of red tape! I remember being stuck in a bureaucratic loophole myself before, it cost me a lot of moolah because of all the call minutes!
I totally get that, being OC because of internal rules. I'm the same. But these days, because energy is in short supply, I just try to shut off the inner voice that tells me to edit everything until it's all ironed out.
It's fortunate I don't usually make phone calls (even the ones I make home aren't as regular as they should be) otherwise I wouldn't have liked to see the phone bill either x_x JJ at least knew about it as I told him about my epic phone journey XD
Amusingly my inner voices are usually telling me not sweat the small stuff too much and just concentrate on the bigger project as it's time rather than energy that's in short supply in my case XD

I usually am :D I like being busy on things I want to be busy on ;D It's only...technically two but the upgoats won't take long once I work out what I'm doing (which is the bit that takes longest).
Yep, sometimes the idea is just floating in your head and you know there is something missing but don't know what :) And when you forget about it, then the "final" solution comes :)
