Intermittent Fasting 16:8 Day 40 update - Illness and Family Vacations

IF 16:8 Day 40!

I have just arrived home from a few days away for my Brother’s wedding. It was a lovely ceremony and great to get everyone together. A beautiful day!

(A rare picture of me in my wedding outfit! I hate having my picture taken..)

All the family stayed in a B & B together so I had to eat breakfast with everyone as I didn't want to miss out on precious family time, especially with my 90 year old grandparents. We were eating throughout the day and in the evening too so I really haven’t fasted for about 3 days… and boy can I tell a difference!

I feel so heavy and sluggish and bloated... oh and hungry! I guess eating more makes you hungry for some reason!

I still have no voice, in fact I feel even more ill than I did before I went away which is a shame, but at least now I can focus on resting and getting better.

This morning I woke up and wanted to eat straight away and it has been a battle not to. It is 11:10 am and I only have 50 minutes but I feel like I haven’t eaten in days, I can actually hear my stomach rumbling which is crazy because I did have something small to eat later on last night.

I think it is going to be a tough few days getting back into the flow again.

TMI ALERT!!!! I also started my period yesterday so I am probably feeling drained from that too. I am seriously not looking forward to my weigh in on Tuesday! Ah well, we have to stay positive in the tough times and know that the feeling will pass!

I am looking forward to feeling well again and getting my body back into the IF routine, it felt so much better working that way.

So here I am signing out, a very sickly @beautifulbullies, but a positive one :)

Much love to you all xx

I hope you are feeling better by now. Intermittent fasting is harder than fasting for a few days on a roll. I never fasted more than 3 days but I feel tempted to give it a try. My partner went on a 8 1/2 days fast and I was surprised to see how much energy he had despite the fact he hadn't ate anything for so long. His skin was less dry and he felt better than he had in years.

Once I was in the routine, I found it easy to stick to as my body knew what to expect (or not to expect) so I wasn't craving food all the time. The only way I can describe the feeling when you are in the last 6 hours of fasting is 'clear and clean'. Your whole body just feels like if is free from toxins and it is a good feeling. Since cutting out sugar, my skin has improved too so it is a win win situation! I just need to get back there again...

Hi lovely, it's been a while!! Sorry to hear you're not well, loving the pic though! I'm hardly on discord nowadays, so I miss out on the chats :( Hope you and your family are well <3

hey beauts! :D How r u?! It has been a long time! Everyone has gone so quiet recently. We are all good thank you, I hope you and your family are well too?! xx

I'm ok... it has been a crazy few months which meant I could hardly post and hardly engage on Discord. It seems like quite a few of us have been going through some crazy times, hence so many being so quiet!! Trying to get back into a good Steemit routine now, so I can catch up on everyone's blogs. Are you thinking of going to Steemfest?? :)

I can only imagine how hard it would be to maintain your fasting at a wedding and also with family. In one way it is good for you to really see the benefits and from now it will motivate you to keep going. Love the photo of you xxx

Thank you! :D I prefer to be behind the camera normally, but as it was a special occasion I thought I would take a picture for memories sake :)

I knew I wasn't going to be able to fast whilst I was away so I just didn't bother trying. The hardest part is trying to get back into it again, but I will keep working at it. xxx

Hello @beautifulbullies and family. Glad to know everyone is having a great time. You look gorgeous.
Hope you feel better soon. Xx

aaaahhh! I have to get back on the horse again!

I'm so sorry you're feeling ill. Not nice at all.

i must say that while fasting I did feel very energetic, and it was easy to abstain from late night chocolates, as it was after 8pm, no foods after 8!

I went away for a weekend two weekends ago, and same as you, I was with family who wanted to go out for breakfast etc, and since then I've kind of been eating normally, not completely unhealthily, but when you don't hve rules (like no eating after 8pm, it becomes easy to just pop in a late night cookie or something.

So from tomorrow I'll be back on the horse!

You can do it! :D It is crazy how fast you can clip back into the old habits though isn't it? I am litterally battling with myself now, trying not to give in. I have set my no eating alarm for tonight, and I am determined to stick to it! I hope it doesn't take too long to settle back into the routine. Good luck and we can both do it together! :D

Your looking good in that picture! I went though a spell of grabbing a pint of milk and having one of these for 3 consecutive evenings. I did lose some weight, but if you really want something to happen, its exercise that does it.. I'm repeating myself aren't I?

Thank you! :D

Haha yes, I get the point! I need to exercise too!!! xD I promise I will focus on exercise once I am better health wise, I just don't want to push my body too much until I have recovered fully. The thing with fasting is that after 12 hours of fasting (I fast for 16 hours) the body starts to focus on repairing itself as it doesn't need to focus on processing food so hopefully it won't take long.
(My IF diary is soooo demanding lol)

You had to include the period story lol... haha

I understand that feeling where you eat and still feel hungry. Sometimes I wonder how my body and my stomach do that, especially when the food they crave will really affect my bank balance. hehe

thank you for sharing

Oh and by the way, you are very pretty ma'am.

lol thank you! Yes, that is another bonus of fasting, it certainly helps the bank balance! xD

I keep hearing about fasting and the great things is apparently does - I think it was BBC documentary with Michael Mosley. I seem to recall he has also put his diabetes in remission through eating naturally (full fat) and I think fasting on a 5:2 basis.

I'd love to give it a go myself as I've more than a few lbs to lose but I need to talk to my doctor first. I have to take warfarin to control blood clots and therefore need a routine to eating. Might have to go have a google to see if I can find anybody in a similar situation who has made it work for them.

Hope you feel well soon! It's horrible not feeling 100% at the best of times but during the summer I think makes it even worse.

Thank you, I hope to be better soon! :)

Yes!!! The Michael Mosley documentary was ground breaking for IF! He invented the 5:2 protocol and has done so much research in the field too. He travels around and hosts talks about healthy eating and the ways in which we have been tricked into eating the wrong things by food corps and speaks out against Doctors making money by prescribing drugs rather than the correct diets etc.

I am sure there must be something you can do with a similar protocol with your health issues but I would defo recommend doing lots of research and speaking with your GP or a specialist doctor before trying anything. I would be interested to know how you get on so please let me know if you find any information!

Good luck! :D

Thank you :)

Well I've been having a poke about and seem to have mixed feedback....as you tend to have when searching the interwebs. However, I found somebody who follows the 5:2 on warfarin and suggest not fasting on consecutive days and to pack vitamin K loaded veggeis on the fast days...this seems to make some sense.

Vitamin K helps to clot blood so warfarin works by restricting the generation or processing of vitamin K; not eating buggers the process up and is likely to lead to ones blood becoming thinner. When on warfarin you'd usually avoid vitamin K but this person loads on vitamin K on the fast days to balance out the lack of general calorie intake.

Have I just been talking waffle?

I've a blood test due in early September so I may try it the weeks leading up to the blood test to see what my results come back as.

That is actually really interesting! It also sounds like it could be dangerous if not done properly. Please be careful and speak to your doctor first.

Do you normally avoid veggies that contain lots of Vitamin K? Which veggies is that exactly?

If you do decide to do it, let me know your results! Good luck!

The only thing I've avoided is cranberries.

With everything else I just try to make sure intake is consistent - that goes for veggies high in vitamin K and things like alcohol (which thins your blood).

Vitamin K is found in green stuff...cabbage, broccoli, Kale, sprouts etc. All things I love.

I'm really glad you got to spend time with family and participate in your brother's wedding. In the really long run that time will be more precious to you than any weight gain or loss. Trust me on this.

That said, I'm really glad to see you fighting to get right back on the horse. Successful people, in any discipline aren't the ones that don't fail or back up. They are the ones that get right back at it when they do have slippage.

Good for you. And thank you for sharing your story. I know it inspires me to go on. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Thank you Big T! You are always so supportive and I appreciate it :)

Yes, I am determined to make this work so there is no point giving up at the first hurdle. In one respect, it did me a favour because I realise how much better I feel when I am fasting, which makes me want to get back there again!

Take care of yourself and get well soon !
