How I met your mother / Wie meine Eltern sich kennenlernten
Again some photos of the olden days I found in our family album. I chose today 's pictures (and the story connected to them) due to @balticbadger's pictures of WWII and a little conversation in the comments there.
Wieder einige Fotos aus dem Familienalbum - diesmal mit einer kleinen Geschichte dazu. Angeregt dazu wurde ich von Fotos aus der unmittelbaren Nachkriegszeit die @balticbadger gepostet hat und einer kleinen Unterhaltung in den Kommentaren.
It all began with a British bullet. I don't know how or when exactly - my father didn't talk a lot about the war. Anyway, his left arm was seriously injured in 1944 and this led to him being in a navy hospital/rehab institution near Hamburg.
Alles begann mit einer britischen Kugel. Ich weiß nicht genau wo und wie - mein Vater sprach nicht viel über den Krieg. Auf jeden Fall wurde er 1944 am linken Arm schwer verletzt und kam in ein Marinelazarett in Tötensen bei Hamburg zur Reha.

And that's where my mother came into play. She was an assistant nurse and, at least that was what my father said, her injections were hardly noticeable. If that's not a reason to fall in love, what is?
Und hier traf er meiner Mutter. Sie war Schwesternhelferin und, zumindest erzählte er es so, ihre Spritzen waren kaum zu spüren. Wenn das nicht ein Grund für die große Liebe ist, was dann?
It took some time till they married in 1946. She might not look that happy in the picture - but that's because she was quite myopic but of course you couldn't wear your glasses for such an important picture. It's the typical "I suppose the big grey blob is where I should look at" face of shortsighted people without their glasses.
Es hat dann noch bis Herbst 1946 gedauert mit der Heirat. Und wenn sie ein etwas gequältes Gesicht macht auf dem Foto - sie war stark kurzsichtig aber man konnte ja auf so einem wichtigen Foto keine Brille tragen. Es ist der typische "Der große graue Fleck da vorne ist vermutlich wo ich hinschauen sollte" Gesichtsausdruck den Kurzsichtige ohne Brille haben.

Danke. Ich war mir erst nicht sicher ob da nicht von irgendem ein Aufschrei kommt von wegen NS-Zeit und Soldaten und was auch immer. Aber wer nicht genau hinschaut sieht das vielleicht gar nicht so, Marineuniformen haben sich ja weniger verändert als andere ;)
