My Actifit Report Card: February 18 2019

in #actifit5 years ago (edited)

I managed to get out and do some disc golfing today for around 8000 steps, followed by some jump rope of around 107 skips and then some wild pacing and odd gesturing around the house. Fitbits are so much fun.

The disc golfing out by the old State Mental Hospital was the highlight of the day. I might post some more photos of the old buildings around the course at some point if anyone is interested.

I finally got to try out my new Tobu disc. It flies very nicely and reminds me of my Innova Champion Firebird in flight. The plastic even feels the same but there is some nice rough gripping areas with smooth, medium and rough feel on the inside throwing edge. This is a really great feature for me because I have a hard time gripping the really smooth feeling champion plastic when it is wet. Because of this I like throwing the Tobu better than the Firebird and I seem to be able to be more accurate with it.

The Tobu Charge disc is very nice and perfect for the more advanced technical courses around here. The application that comes with it makes the disc beep to show the location of the disc and does an excellent job of estimating your distance to it. It really helps to be able to throw the disc without having to worry too much about watching exactly where it lands. There are many throws where this comes in very handy.

I gave it a few test throws before heading out to play the course. I can’t get the distance that I can get with my favorite distance driver “Little Pinky” however that would be expected from a control driver. It has a very hard fade (drifts to the left after the power part of the flight on a backhand right hand throw) and flies stable to over-stable when I throw it. There is not a lot of glide and I can’t get much turn out of it with my underpowered throws. This disc will probably take over as my main midrange disc, especially on treed courses; I figure this will be a good wind fighter too.

I par hole one using the Tobu disc for my second throw after using my distance driver on the first throw.

I approach hole 2. This one has been a bit of a problem for me in misplacing my discs. The tree to the left is usually where the disc goes. Sometimes it has been stuck up in the tree and sometimes down in the brambles under the tree. You can’t easily find it when this happens.

Usually I throw forehand thinking it will give me better control and not wind up in the tree. Unfortunately when I try to throw forehand hard and miss the tree it goes into the tree because of a bad release - go figure. This time I threw the Tobu backhand and cleared everything and faded hard to the left into the fairway beyond the tree – sometimes the throw is easier when your not so worried about it.

So on to the rest of the course. It was fairly uneventful until I arrived at the “Old Christmas Tree Hole,” my nemesis. This is one of the those holes where you sometimes have no clue where the disc lands.

With a graceful backhanded throw I launched the Tobu disc of to the right of what one could consider the “fairway” if there were such a thing, and it faded left and landed somewhere with a THUD of the typical, “disc hits a tree at a high speed noise.” The problem then becomes, which tree?

As I walked down the snowy path the Tobu announced its location with a little “beep” and there it was under a tree. Just ten feet away was another disc that someone had lost. I thought to myself, “Sometimes Santa’s elves giveth and sometimes they taketh away.”

I looked around and there didn’t appear to be anyone about so I called the number on the back of the disc that I found and wandered away with it. If they want it back, hopefully I can get it back to them.

I wasn't really keeping score very accurately but scored somewhere around 18 over par on 18 holes - there was some snow that was causing issues. I felt like my arm was rested up and my form felt pretty good but my putting was way off at first. It was a lot of fun to be out disc golfing again.

Oh, no! You didn't replace Pinky, did you? Or are you just adding another disc to the family?

I got a look at that tree on Hole #2 and said a little prayer. That could be pretty miserable trying to get it out of there, but, nothing compared to Hole #6! Sweet Jesus!! Look at all those trees! I cannot believe you found another disc! Right there in plain sight! But, then, it wasn't your disc, so of course, you saw it! I hope you can find who it belongs to also.

I like how helpful your new little disc is! Oh, how many hours of searching have you spent??? Good luck with it and I hope it continues to treat you well. :)

Sounds like a good day, all the way around.

Pinky is still my favorite distance driver disc. As such I've throw it a lot of times when I probably shouldn't have been throwing it and have spent a lot of hours searching for it. It flies a bit understable for me when I throw it hard and can go really far but not super accurately.

I've got about ten discs that I like to carry around, although I typically don't throw them all when playing a game depending on the conditions. I've only lost a couple discs so far. One disc I have kind of retired because I can't seem to throw it too well as yet.

I still haven't heard back from the owner of the disc I found, I may have to reach out to him again with another message.

I am happy to hear that it is beeping away and working out. I really believed that was a place where technology could really help.

This technology is wonderful and the disc works really well as a fairway or control driver. The application could use some work because it crashes all the time but I think it is a very good start. This new disc has put a lot of enjoyment and confidence in my game and I can't wait to try it out in some more heavily wooded courses.
