Self-inflicted infection
Today evening one patient came to my chamber who is from Bangladesh and working as a construction worker in Oman. His complaint was pain and swelling in the right index finger for the last 3 days. During examining the hand I found a wound on one side of the finger. Overall the finger was moderate to severely swollen and severely tender on palpation. It was an obvious abscess/cellulitis case. But when I asked about the wound he told that initially the problem just started with little redness and swelling. But he, himself tried to take out the red skin portion with an unsterile needle. After one day, it became worse.

Then the whole picture became clear to me. Actually, he was not alone in doing such. I found a good number of patients, surprisingly most of them are from my own country, who conducted his first operation (!) on the affected part of their body with either unsterile needle or date thorn, before coming to me. They just made the condition worse!
By the way, despite doing all sort of operation procedures (minor or major) with strict sterilization precaution, there are a lot of incidences of postoperative infection. But these non-sense and (illiterate ) group of people are just inviting infections on their own.
Let doctors or health professionals do their work!

every case has a little bit of a previous story..!! patient can't realise... that's human body (try to incision by waste blade,pin,knife etc) that's not construction zone...they try to make doctor..!!
He may not have had access to a doctor in Oman. Working conditions for foreign construction workers are often akin to slavery in the Gulf.
