They will break it, once we go to war.

Things happen in Vietnam, but they always do there.
A rebellion started.
How why who?
No idea.
But it seems to be bad.
Mainland looks pretty bad, but I got this.
We have enough troops and friends to crush them in time.

Why did they succeed?
There was no indication anywhere.
I was crushing them, they had Edo for some time, but my troops were re-sieging there.
This doesn't make any sense.
That cancels my westernization process.
Back to square one.
No gains.
very frustrating, as I can now only watch the game.
Again Vietnam, nothing to be concerned about

We justify a war against Thailand.
Have a look around, they are in no influence of UK!
We gained some infamy, but nowhere it is mentioned that this would be to bad.
Our ships are in our main harbor and gain attrion.

And Vietnam declares war on us.

But do you see the diplomatic screen?
Yes, UK is now at war with us, too.
Defending Thailand/Siam.
How did that happen?
No idea, there was no indication, warning or anything whatsoever.
No military reform, who knows, what rebellion or foreign country will go to war because of that.
White peace with UK, the best I could hope for.
So the CB was made in vain.
Infamy gain was for nothing.
We don't gain a province?
We just claimed something?
The north of Japan?
Or so.
Nothing gained, nothing lost this episode
So it is a win?
There you go, some stats, not sure, what they could tell me.
Lessons learned:
Victoria lacks a lot of information, or those are hidden in places not obvious to me.
No more wars, because great powers just hate me, at least the UK, which is the worst.
It will be a plain waiting game for the next 100 years.
Nothing to do as Japan from my perspective.
Westernization is at halt.
Reforms not in sight.
Rage quit?

The Shogun faction got mad at you and rebelled because you put the court faction in power when you are Shogunate Japan :^) they managed to change the government because it works differently in victoria, after they hold your capital for 90 days, they win, you have to defend the capital.
well, once my navy is repaired, will move my troops there..

but court faction is still in power, it basically just cancelled my westernization..

You have to maintain the reactionaries in power until you westernize or otherwise they will keep on rebelling

You're fighting the game too hard just like when you started playing HoI4 and didn't enjoyed it cuz you failed invading Italy :^) Let it flow and it will grow on you, Victoria 2 has more depth than EU4 or HoI4, not CK2 obviously, It takes month to barely start understanding everything in Vicky 2 but its the most rewarding of them all when you understand how it works.
10/10 would invade Italy again.

The diplomacy is very restricted.

They removed that from EU4 for a reason

I still return to EU4 .. always;)
Also because that is a very interesting time in real history.
You can puppet other countries, this is not 1400 so you can't annex them after they are your vassal :^)
Research comes through easily after you westernize because Japan has a high literacy rate and that gives you high research yields after the country unifies.
Diplomacy is a bit weaker than in EU4 but they have over 10+ dlcs to expand it and Vicky 2 had only 2 expansions... The economy and industrialization aspect of Vicky 2 for me are the best, especially with Japan because you have so many ways to go, Vicky 2 was the last Paradox game of the old guard way before they used to railroad you into certain outcomes.
