Joker 2019 Review: Now this is a movie you should watch

in #aaa4 years ago

There are not many movies that take you into the mind of a character like this. Such was the quality of the movie that it received 11 nominations at the Academy Awards, winning Best Actor for Phoenix and Best Original Score for Hildur Guðnadóttir. Phoenix and Guðnadóttir also won at the Golden Globe and BAFTA Award ceremonies. and with a budget of just over $50million, it has already made over $1 billion, setting the record of being the first R-rated movie to achieve this feat. The movie stars Joaquin Pheonix as the main character, as well as supporting contribution from Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Bill Camp, Shea Whigham, and Marc Maron.

The Joker is a psychological thriller that takes us on an insane journey through the origin of one of DC universe's most revered and cynical character. In the DC universe, he's the one guy the Bats constantly doesn't kill and some even suspect there's some emotional bond between the two enemies but that's not what we're talking about today.

I'm going to do the utmost to avoid dropping spoilers and just focus on the general aspects of the movie that you might or might not have heard about.

So this was probably one of Gotham's worst moments in its history with Rats basically overrunning the town and so much trash on the street. The movie shows the miserable and mentally disturbed Arthur Fleck(Joker's real name) working as one of those billboard clowns that stand in front of restaurants on the littered streets of Gotham.

The story started unfolding when he was "clowning" at a hospital for kids and a gun given to him by one of his clown buddies mistakenly slipped out of his pocket. As if losing his job wasn't bad enough, he suffered an existential crisis, discovered some unnerving things about his life and also stopped receiving Government funded medication and psychiatric service that was generally helping him cope.

Arthur was a simpleton that suffered from schizophrenia, dementia, dyslexia, suicidal thoughts, multiple personality syndrome, something I can only refer to as a "laughing disorder" that interfered with his dream of being a comedian, and probably other mental issues that we could spend the rest of the year studying. He basically created a world in his head and lived in it for as long as he felt like and then every now and then, interacted with people in reality. He was by all ramification a psycho, completely bonkers and sociopathic.

His experiences and amount of suffering would have devastated the most stable human but here was this poor psychotic guy with a gun pointed at a World that was going to hell and literally didn't care. His actions made him a beacon of hope for the lost and abandoned, the misfits and all together crazies. The chain of events culminated in an unfortunate event that would scar the young Bruce Wayne and eventually motivate him to adopt his superhero persona.

There are really not enough superlatives to describe how much I enjoyed this movie and even thinking about various scenes gives me goosebumps and some times, makes my eyes feel watery. It is a movie that captivates and thrills in equal measure while keeping me in suspense because despite knowing the origin of The Joker because the story was loosely adapted from "The killing joke", the interpretation and performance of Joaquin Pheonix and the entire cast as a whole was refreshing. It is a movie I encourage you to watch, probably without the kids around because of the strong language and violence that might be too strong for them to swallow.

well, i thought it was just ok. I thought Walking Fenix was excellent but was actually bored during a lot of the film. Don't get me wrong it is still a great film, but I think it won exactly as many awards as it should have.

You're probably right about the awards part because the competition was Stiff. 2019 produced some great movies and amazing performances as well; Al Pacino and Robert Deniro in Irishman, Brad Pitt in that Hollywood something movie that eludes my mind are just two out of the lot.
If this movie was released in one of those years where we had mostly superheroes and one or two Kinda good movies, it would have swept up all the awards. I think what is intriguing about it is the small budget and simplicity of it all; it almost felt like it was acted in the theatre. And yeah, Walking Fenix was amazing

Anyone reading this. Don't watch, it's a retarded movie nobody would care to watch if it didn't carry the mythology it does.

Also, belemo is my bitch and has a micropenis.
