Your experience with trying to get Windows to do something simple (like operate in English) seems pretty typical. But good grief, that sounds like it was a hard install. I'm glad it worked out in the end.

I've had great luck putting Linux on older computers, which is why I almost always buy second hand on eBay. I'm afraid that they're going to make it harder and harder to use our computers the way we want to in the future!
