Forgotten War
Did you know that the Second World War was the last time the U.S. Congress made a formal declaration of war? The United States constitution grants Congress the sole power to declare war. The sole power...

Every war since then has been, or still is an illegal war. Congress has declared war on just 11 occasions, including its first declaration of war with Great Britain in 1812. That's 11 times out of the 93 wars the U.S. have been involved in; when you fight that many wars in just 245 years, some of them are bound to be forgotten. Not only that; America hasn't had one single day without being involved in some armed conflict somewhere on the globe since the Second World War. Not one day. Let that sink in for a moment.
Now I could go on to tell you that this has nothing to do with some natural propensity to war-like behavior of American people, and everything to do with capitalism's expansionist nature, which can only lead to imperialist behavior. New markets have to be conquered, you know? For profit margins to be maximized, resources have to be cheap, and when those resources are abroad, there's nothing cheaper than installing some puppet-regime; send in the troops (without a formal declaration of war), chase away the old government and install a dictator of choice. This has been the m.o. of the world's strongest economic and military force.
After the Second World War, which was won by the Soviets at the eastern front, the Allied forces, led by America, received all the credits for defeating Nazi Germany, and the Cold War began. All of the illegal wars started by the United States since then had one of two goals: fighting communism, the Red Scare, or gain control of the raw materials needed for industry, like the oil of the Middle East. Or both. None of the wars were started to "spread freedom and democracy"; if you still believe that, I have a bridge to sell you. It's simple; capitalism needs growth and it needs alternative ideologies dead. There's nothing more to it. And if you think that's too simple a representation of a complex reality, I've got a couple more bridges for sale. Sometimes, in order to understand history, and by extension the present, we need a bird's eye view, we must focus on the big movements and disregard the minutiae to be able to pierce through the veil of lies and propaganda.
Why is North Korea so weird?
One of the wars against capitalism's counter-ideology is officially known as the "Forgotten War" in America, and that's the Korean war. This is the war between communist Russia and China and capitalist America that split an entire country in two pieces. North Korea was funded and armed by the Russians and assisted by China, and South Korea was of course funded, armed and assisted by America. If you think America misbehaved in Vietnam or in Japan by dropping two nuclear bombs when the country had already lost the war, you're absolutely right. But America's actions in Korea were equally shameful and inhuman, which is why I share today's video, linked below. It tells the story of this war from a neutral perspective and includes black and white footage from America as well as Russia; you'll get a good idea, I believe, of the reasons why this war has been forgotten by America. And above I linked a video about the propaganda that's still being perpetuated by western news media about North Korea. I'm not saying that North Korea is blameless, but I am saying that whatever you hear about America's ideological adversaries is bound to be distorted in a way to make you hate communism and communist regimes. Watch the videos and make up your own mind.
