What do we know about IOS11
Introduction
Well as you might have heard, the IOS 11 is comming to the new Ipad Pro and Iphone. Apple promises that it will have hundreds of new major and minor functions and features and while the IOS10 pretty much didn't really had key features to the Ipad the IOS11 has.
Basic Features
So what do we know about the IOS11, so first up it has an update which includes a new customizable Dock, which offers access to frequently used apps and documents. The Dock is persistent and can be accessed at any time and within any app by swiping upwards on the iPad's display. Using the Dock, it's easy to access multitasking functionality like Split View and Slide Over, and there's a new App Switcher that lets you see all the apps you're using at a glance and quickly switch between them.
It also comes with a new file app which will let you acces all of your files, regardless of whether they're stored locally, in iCloud Drive, or in other cloud services like Dropbox or Google Drive.
System-wide drag and drop is available on the iPad, making it easy to drag images, text, links, and more from one app to another, or between documents. On the iPhone, drag and drop is available within some apps, like Files.
Apple Pencil is more deeply integrated into the iPad, with Apple introducing support for inline drawing and markup options in a range of apps, from Mail to Notes. A new Instant Notes feature can open Notes from the Lock Screen just by tapping an Apple Pencil on the display.
On both the iPhone and the iPad, iOS 11 introduces a refreshed, updated look that focuses on bolder fonts and other small design changes. There's an entirely redesigned single-screen Control Center that's customizable, and a new Lock Screen experience that makes it easier to see Notifications in one spot.
Siri is gaining a new, more natural voice (both male and female options are available), with a more natural intonation, pitch, emphasis, and tempo. A new Siri translate feature lets Siri translate English words into Chinese, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. With Siri able to use on-device learning to offer up more personal experiences and suggestions based on usage of Safari, News, Mail, Messages, and more. Siri will, for example, provide Apple News suggestions based on your interests. All of Siri's new functionality is done on-device, so there are no privacy concerns.
Some significant new features are coming to the Camera and Photos apps in iOS 11. Portrait Mode images are gaining support for optical image stabilization on compatible devices, and will also be able to take advantage of True Tone flash and HDR. There are new options for Live Photos, including Loop and Bounce for creating continuous video loops and Long Exposure for capturing both time and movement (like running water in an otherwise still photo).
In the Photos app, Apple has optimized Memory movies to play in landscape or portrait orientation, and more memories, like those centered around specific events or pets will be created. A new High Efficiency Image File Format will significantly cut down on the photo size of images captured with Apple's iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
In Messages, there's an all new app drawer that makes it easier to access apps and stickers, and in Apple Maps, there's now support for indoor maps at major airports and shopping centers around the world. Maps is also gaining lane guidance options that'll prevent users from missing a turn or an exit.
In Apple Music, there are new options for sharing music with friends. Users can create playlists for friends to access, and they can access their friends' playlists.
Apple Pay is being updated with a new peer-to-peer payment option that allows money to be sent using the Messages app or Siri, taking advantage of the credit and debit cards stored in Wallet. When receiving money, it goes into an Apple Pay Cash account, which can be used to make purchases using Apple Pay or sent to a bank account.
Do Not Disturb mode is being expanded with new features for the car. When enabled while driving, Do Not Disturb mutes all incoming notifications and lets people know that you're driving and will get back to them later. Do Not Disturb for vehicles will come on automatically when an iPhone connects to a car's Bluetooth, but it can be disabled.
HomeKit is gaining a new Speaker category, which will allow speakers to be controlled from the Home app, and with a new AirPlay2. feature, multi-room audio is available. Speakers with AirPlay 2 support can be controlled using Control Center, the Home app, or Siri.
CoreML, a new API, offers on-device machine learning capabilities to developers, allowing them to make apps that predict, learn, and grow smarter over time.
Apple is also introducing an ARKit SDK that's designed to help developers build high-quality AR experiences and games to the iPhone and iPad. ARKit takes advantage of the processors and motion sensors in iOS devices to build virtual content that can be placed atop real-world scenes for purposes like interactive gaming, immersive shopping, industrial design, and more.
Play store
It's for the first time that Apple renews its App Store. The app has been rebuilt from the ground up with a completely new design. In addition, Apple uses a kind of map design with categories at the bottom of the app. Brand new is the 'Today' tab. There is also a separate tab for games, which is one of the most important sections in the App Store, which also generates a lot of money. Other apps are bundled into a separate "Apps" tab. Every day there is an 'App of the Day' and a 'Game of the Day'. In addition, daily lists are in different themes. Think of meditation apps bundled in a summary. The new App Store also includes tips and videos.
iOS 11 is limited to developers at the current time, but Apple plans to offer a public beta in late June. The operating system will see an official release this fall alongside the new iPhones.
The new iOS 11 update will be available for iPhone 5s and later, all iPad Air and iPad Pro models, iPad 5th generation, iPad mini 2 and later and iPod touch 6th generation. Person to person Apple Pay payments will, however, require an Apple Pay-compatible device.
