ENTEROBIUS VERMICULARIS (PHOTOS)

in #knowledge9 years ago

Good afternoon dear users of Steemit (According to Venezuelan schedule) I want to thank all the people who have taken a few minutes of their time to read my publications, vote for them and share them.

This time I want to show you a very interesting aspect of my career, every morning when I arrive at my work I sit down in front of the microscope, adjust the eyepieces and immerse myself in the microscopic world, I want to leave here the photos of undesirable guests that They were making life miserable for a patient, his mother came to the lab very concerned with a stool sample from her son telling me that her son was having a very bad time. For those who are parents or children, most of them have been victims of Enterobios Vermicularis. They will be asking "What the hell are you talking about?" without further detours I will leave you a simple explanation:

Enterobius vermicularis is the name of a parasite known also as Oxiuro, they are very small, 3-5 mm in the male and approximately 12 mm for the female. They are intestinal parasites that mostly affect children under 12 years, larvae are usually pearly white and fusiform, with a pair of cephalic fins on the head.

Here I leave the image of an atlas so that they can get an idea of what the parasite in question is like.

Surely many will wonder, being such a small parasite, what can it cause?

There is a quite characteristic symptom that produces this parasite, constituting a very important data in the diagnosis of it, being the most common of all the pruritus, itching or itching in the perianal region, it is usually the most annoying symptom for children and adults. they contract it. The stinging around the anus is due to the female ovipositing their eggs in this region, once they hatch or explode, the larvae begin their biological cycle through the intestinal region, producing this annoying symptom and causing more than one to be Found fragrant scratching his butt.

But the true consequences of this parasite do not lie in the itching itself, this is only the beginning of problems such as a bacterial infection secondary to stinging, peritonitis or fulminating appendicitis since the habitat of the adult parasite is the caecum. In the case of girls, the parasite can migrate to the vulva, producing future salpingitis, vulvovaginitis and, in the worst case, endometriosis.

Now, in what way could my son / daughter have been infected with this parasite?

As I said before, the parasite usually spreads to children under 12 years of age, that is to say school age. As I remember when I was in kindergarten I suffered it, usually the children in the preschool usually have periods of rest or nap, it is there where the parasites located in the anus go out to the outside being in the sheets and infected to the children who are around. Another way of contagion is the onicofagía, that is to say the popular bad habit of "eating the nails", the contaminated person that scratches the anus and takes the nails to the mouth without washing the hands will undergo a reinfection, that without mentioning the ingesting or cooking food without previous hand washing.

"Zuni, you have already scared us a lot with all the problems that the Enterobius can cause, and tell us at once how we can get rid of it"

To begin, when presenting stomach upsets or itching the first thing you should do is go with your doctor, who will prescribe a stool test, and in the laboratory analysis is where I came. You must go to the laboratory with a stool sample in a sterile collector that you can easily buy at any pharmacy.

Through a series of methods the bioanalyst will observe the delivered sample and will be able to diagnose either the adult parasite or its eggs. In my case I managed to observe in my work beautiful eggs of Enterobius vermicularis (Sorry to call them that but only a colleague can understand my emotion)

Enterobius vermicularis egg, Saline solution, objective 40x

Enterobius vermicularis egg, Lugol, objective 40x

Enterobius vermicularis egg, Method of kato, objective 40x

Once the corresponding diagnosis has been made, the doctor will recommend an anthelmintic, including Mebendazole. Before saying goodbye, I would like to leave you some suggestions, in case any member of the family is contaminated, you can prevent the rest from getting infected:

Keep fingernails short (especially if you have the bad habit of eating your nails or handling food)

Wash clothes and sheets, especially with hot water because pinworm eggs can not withstand high temperatures

Extend the clothes to the sun and open the windows of the rooms since the eggs of this parasite are photosensitive.

I hope you have liked my post, if you want to support me you can do it by voting, commenting or retesting, until next time.
