Migrating birds

Why do birds fly to foreign lands every year? Why do they come back and not stay where it is always warm and good? The questions are as interesting as they are difficult to answer!

For quite a long time, bird migration was explained only in this way: in winter the birds are cold and the climate must be changed. Yet, oddly enough, low temperatures are not the reason for flights.

Nowadays, it is believed that in winter birds fly to warm regions from winter lack of food. Birds spend their energy very quickly, and they get it from food, which means that birds need to eat often and in large quantities.

As a result, when the ground freezes and food is very difficult to find, especially for insectivorous birds, so many of them fly south.

Confirmation that birds fly south due to lack of food is the following fact: if food is abundant, migratory birds, even in severe frosts, do not leave the places where they were born...

But still, such an answer cannot be considered exhaustive. The behavior of migratory birds gives us quite a few mysteries that we cannot solve at the moment.

And the swallow leaves its cold native lands to spend the winter in Africa or Asia, under the warm summer cloudless sky. But why does it fly over all of Africa, although you can find warm lands for wintering closer?

But it also happens: for example, petrels fly away from Antarctica and follow to the North Pole. And here they are not looking for warmth!

And if scientists until now do not understand everything about the reasons forcing birds to break away from their homes to warm lands, then why they constantly return back to the north from the blessed, abundant south - this is still not clear.
