How my village got existence

As my grandpa says, it was the people from the immigrant convoy who chose our places for their permanent residence nearly seven decades ago.

A high hill with berry meadows, at the foot of which a lake with an abundance of various fish and crayfish splashed, deciduous forests with flowering lindens, an abundance of mushrooms and various animals - all this pleased the settlers. Here, on the shore of the lake, they built a village and settled.

The fertile surrounding lands allowed them to engage in arable farming and gardening. Sowed rye, oats, barley, wheat, buckwheat, millet, peas, hemp and flax. They grew cabbage, pumpkin, turnips and potatoes.

The abundance of meadows made it possible to keep livestock. So they lived and worked in a peaceful and decent way for many years.

But our lake is famous not only for its legend, but also for the largest floating island. In June 2017 there was a hurricane at night, a strong wind was blowing. So strong that from the shore, right behind their fence, a large piece of land with a forest growing on it was torn off.

And since then, this 80 x 20 meter island has been drifting across the lake depending on the direction of the wind. And two years ago, the owners ennobled the empty shore by building a retaining wall and putting a picturesque gazebo on the water.
