Green lungs of the planet

Forests are usually called the lungs of the planet, and this is really so - the colossal tracts of vegetation provide oxygen to all living things. But besides this, they are a regulator of the average temperature on the planet and the concentration of carbon dioxide.

The level of the latter, by the way, is steadily growing, while the areas of virgin forests, according to ecologists, are constantly decreasing .

Forest expanses, striking in their grandeur and scale, invariably attract a person. Some areas are so picturesque that they become incredibly popular with tourists.

Column-like gigantic cliffs are completely covered in bizarre vegetation, while viewing platforms with glass floors perfectly complement the feeling of floating above the world .

However, on the planet, still colossal forest areas remain virgin , never knowing familiarity with humans. Their borders are gradually narrowing , being subject to deforestation and suffering from fires.

So far, the dynamics are disappointing - according to experts, some forests will completely disappear from the face of the Earth in 30-50 years.

In order to draw people's attention to the problems of forests and increase public awareness of their role in shaping the climate, 47 years ago, at the next UN Assembly, it was decided to establish an International Day of Forests .

The initiative was taken up by all UN member states and today, when a real threat looms over the most powerful ecosystem of the planet , this day is celebrated in one way or another in almost every country in the world.

The day was not chosen by chance - it is considered that spring begins in the northern hemisphere from the vernal equinox . This means that the world is being renewed and the development of a new life begins.
