Today, I'm gonna do what usually I do. If you are new to my article, I have to say that My post is about reviewing classing games on any video game platforms. However, I've reviewed many video games from Sega Genesis/Mega Drive platform. Then, the video game that I want to review is still from Sega Genesis. The name of the video game is Golden Axe. Ok, it's not good if you have to waste your time here. Let's review the video game and enjoy it.

Golden Axe has more than one genre such as a side-scrolling, beat 'em up, hack, and slash. This video game was launched in 1989 by Sega while the developer was Sega AM1. The game was aimed at the System 16-B arcade hardware. If you are the old gamer, you must know what is arcade hardware. But, if you still don't know, don't worry because you can google it. Golden Axe has many series of video games and this one is the first series. The lead designer of this video game was Makoto Uchida which was also responsible for the developing of Altered Beast. After success in arcade hardware, this video game was extended for Sega Genesis and Master System Consoles.

Gameplay

To complete the game, the player must fight with Death Adder's henchmen, including men armed with clubs and maces, skeleton warriors, and knights. The player has some abilities to deal with these obstacles such as using the weapon, jumping, and using spells to beat all of the enemies on the screen. To perform this magic spell, the player must have the magic power. You can see it in the magic bar. You can refill the magic bar by attacking little angel who carries a bag. Then, the angle will drop the blue magic bottle that you can collect. You can find these angles during the game such as in regular levels and bonus stages. There are three characters that you can use for the game. The first is Ax who can cast earth spell. The second is the dwarf Gilius who can cast lightning spells. The last is a woman warrior named Tyris who can cast fire magic

Moreover, the video game also provides other aid for the player. For example, each character that you chose has a different number of maximum magic bars and varying ranges of attack. Then, you can also ride various steeds which are known as bizzarians. You can find these creatures during the game. Not only ridding the bizzarians, you also can utilize them as the weapon to attack the enemies. Furthermore, there is the strongest steed which is known as the Cockatrice. This steed also can be used to attack the enemies.

Plot

The game location places the fictional land named Yuria which is a Conan the Barbarian-style high fantasy medieval world. The king of the land and his daughter are caught by an evil entity named Death Adder. He also put them in their castle. He asks the people of Yuria to obey him. If they don't want to do it, Death Adder will destroy the Golden Axe which is the magical symbol of Yuria and kills all the royal family. Then, three warriors decide to help the King. They are Gillius Thunderhead who is a battle axe-wielding dwarf from the mines of Wolud. His twin brother was killed by the soldiers of Death Adder. The second is Ax Battler who is a male barbarian. Ax's mother was also murdered by Death Adder's soldiers. Then, the last is Tyris Flare who is an Amazon. Both of her parents were murdered by Death Adder.

The people of the ransacked Turtle Village are saved by the warriors. The village turns out to be situated on the shell of a giant turtle. The warriors are taken by the turtle across the sea. Then, the warriors ride a giant eagle to fly to the castle. In the castle, they fight Death Adder and his soldiers. Then, Death Adder is defeated and the Golden Axe and the land are free. In addition, in the Sega Mega Drive, PC, and other ports versions, the warriors fight Death Adder's mentor who is the true final boss.

My Opinion

Have you tried to play this video game? If yes, what do you think? I also have played this video game. Now, it's time to comment the video game. The storyline of the video game is the common story. But, the developers emphasized in the revenge of the warriors which make the video game little different with other video games. The gameplay is good. The warriors can perform some attack to defeat the enemies. However, it will be hard when the player has to fight more than one enemy at the same time. In short, I give 8 of 10 for this video game.
