The Enigmatic Indian Pied Myna Bird
When it comes to the diverse and vibrant avian life of India, the Indian Pied Myna, also known as the Asian Pied Starling (Gracupica contra), stands out as a striking and melodious bird. Adorned with a unique black-and-white plumage and a repertoire of enchanting calls, this bird is a delightful sight for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts alike.
The Indian Pied Myna is easily recognizable by its distinctive black-and-white coloration. The head, neck, and upper breast are a glossy black, contrasting sharply with the white underparts and rump. Its wings and tail feathers are black with prominent white patches, visible during flight. The bright orange beak and legs add a splash of color, making the bird even more striking.
Adult mynas have a white iris, while juveniles sport a darker one, gradually lightening as they mature. The bird measures about 22 centimeters in length, making it a medium-sized member of the starling family.
