Neurodegeneration

According to Dr. Gary Steinberg the Chairperson of the Neosurgery at the Stanford,

“One of the patient was 71 years old wheel-chair bound individual can walk again after the stem cell surgery”

Stem Cell Can Help Stroke Patient ?

It was thought that brain damage such cause by stroke is irreversible and permanent but a recent medical breakthrough is bringing this notion into a question .Stroke victim has regained the ability to walk after they injected by the stem cell directly into the brain . It’s pretty crazy but it’s real guys ,continue reading guys .

According to US National Institution of Health , a stroke is a medical condition which is poor blood flow to the brain and resulted the cell death. Then ,Stanford University tested a new method for a covering damage brain tissue. The surgical procedure involve 18 stroke patients that were at the plateau stage of recovery. At this stage ,typically no more potential for recovery in motor coordination .They usually taken out of therapy because it’s believed that their brains have been damaged in key areas beyond repair .

During the trial session surgeons drilled a hole at the a patients skull and injected human cell around the damaged areas of the brain. Amazingly ,this stem cell then triggered the damaged areas of the brain to repair themselves. Within a few days ,the patient can move their limbs again and they also begin to speak properly when they couldn’t do this things previously .They also can be sent home at same day of their surgery .

Stroke victim making incredible progress literally overnight , using the new kind of treatment at Standford . When a patient suffer stroke for many years it will make severely damage their brain ,it can be partially paralyzed on the right side of the brain or the left side of the brain . They can speak but her speech is not very understandable, they couldn’t communicate well .After one day of the treatment ,the patient could lift his arm over his head to the side and move it to another side and also to the front .And ,they also started to speak well , their words began to flow .

Dr . Gary Steinberg ,Chairperson of Neurosurgery at Standford led the small clinical trial of eighteen chronic stroke patients . In the trial Dr. Gary Steinberg drilled into the patient’s skull and using a very fine needle injected the Modified Human Stem Cell around the stroke,it will recover the function . These cells don’t survive long after the surgery but they appear to trigger a patient’s damaged brain to begin to heal itself . The cells will jumpstarts the system again .After a few day receiving the stem cell treatment ,the patient life are back on track they also can pregnant and having child .

Success with stem cell theraphy

The patient recovery was not just minimal recovery like someone who couldn’t move their thumb and able to wiggle it . It was much more meaningful when one 71 years old wheelchair-bound patient was able to walking again . Not only stroke but traumatic brain injury and every neurodegenerative disorder can be treated . Stem cell could be used to treat other Neurodegenerative Diseases like Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s .Stem cell are very remarkable type of cell ,they have the ability to change themselves into any other types of cell during early life and growth . In tissue they serve as a sort of internal repair the system dividing essentially without limit to replenish other cells as long as the person is alive .They can do this after a long period of inactivity ,when a stem cell divides each new cell has potential to either remain stem cell or become another type of cell with a more specialized function such as a muscle cell ,a red blood cell or brain cell .

In some organs such as the gut and bone marrows, stem cells regularly divide to repair and replace worn-out damaged tissue and other organs. However such as the pancreas and heart stem cells are only divide under a specific conditions. The cells used in the Stanford surgery were SB623 stem cells these are actually a product standby incorporate .SB623 a bone marrow derived stem cells from adults donors ,the new idea here is that these special stem cells have been genetically engineered to repair damage cells when introduced .

According to World Health Organization(WHO) ,

15 million people suffer strokes worldwide each year ,of these 5 million died and another 5 million are permanently disable .

Once knowing this it becomes easy to see the huge potential of this medical breakthrough . The Stanford team now is moving into phase 2 of the trial with a hundred of patient .The list they’re going to see if these results can be replicated . I wish that Dr. Gary and his team all the best and I also think that this is really awesome .These are the very early days for the stem cell genetic research and the technology can only get better from here .Clearly a huge potential lives within stem cells genetic engineering . It definitely can be used for future and it’s great .It also nice to see this technology being used in that way . As a side point a lot of this just shows how little we know about our brain and in a way only take for granted every single day .So what do you think steemians ,let me know your opinion in the comment section below .

Very informative, thanks for sharing such a great article on stem cell and how it helps stroke patient. Upvote and follow for you. :)

I'm very happy to hear that , thanks for reading my post :)

My pleasure. :)

Good info here. Love that last quote. On that note, I guess surgeons can cut out courage, humanity, passion etc too. :)

Haha, thanks bro for reading my post :)
