Self-education and the government.

I am a student in evening school. As many others around the world I started the education to better myself and better support my family. And to increase my knowledge on a specific subject. I decided to start this education for myself. Not for a boss or anything like that.

So why does a government make rules that state that you need a specific degree to start a education or that you need to do a entrance exam (which I did btw). There are arbitrary rules set up to prohibit people to do a education just because they lack another degree. If I want to get a degree the government is withholding me from achieving that because of a rule set. I believe that is contra productive to say the least.

Many degrees in the schooling system prove you can learn from a book and hold that info in your brain for 6 hours. Many degrees are worth nothing yet someone without a degree can not start a education on a high level because some suite somewhere decided you can’t?

To give you a concrete example. In the EU you can not start a education to become a train driver without a high school diploma. Why is that? It is not like you learn how a engine works in high school or how the signaling works on the tracks, what special procedures there are in a crisis event. Yet you need a high school diploma. But on the other hand you can become a truck or bus driver no problem. This makes no sense.

I hope that one day people up high realize some people make mistakes when they are young and they want to improve there lives without someone stopping them. That it is better to let people try and fail then not letting them try. Life is to short for these life stopping rules.
