How to manage to most crucial parts of your plants' lives

in #marijuana6 years ago

Hi,

The beginning stages of a marijuana plant’s life are arguably the most important. How well your plants start their lives will determine how the rest of their lives go...and big their yield will be.

Start strong by optimize the timing of your grow. You can start germinating inside if you’re in a colder climate!

Let’s look at the first crucial parts of a marijuana plant’s life: the germination, seedling, and transplant stages.

Germination

Germination works like this: inside the seed’s shell there are a root, stem, and two leaves waiting to burst out and start growing. It also contains enough nutrients to start things off strong on its own. Those nutrients turn into glucose that plants use for energy and growth.

Seeds are germinated when they receive moisture and light. Soak them in 65-degree (Fahrenheit) water until they start to split open. Don’t worry, germinating them in water will not cause them to drown. There’s no risk of that until they are at least two weeks old.

Whatever you do, don’t add nutrients to the water or they’ll get nutrient burn.

Once your seeds have germinated, put them in soil that isn’t too nutrient-heavy. Keep the soil moist with a plant sprayer (1-2 times per day should be enough). Make sure they are getting plenty of light as well — try a white CFL light two inches away.

Seedling stage

Once your little green babies start sprouting over the soil, you’ll know they have entered the seedling stage. Congratulations! Now it’s time to avoid doing anything stupid. Some of the most common mistakes when caring for seedlings are:

Overwatering
Underwatering
Nutrient issues
Temperatures too high
Poor or improper lighting
Educate yourself and avoid these problems! If you keep your plants healthy during the seedling stage, you will be amazed at how easy it is to care for your plants during the vegetative and flowering phase.

The transplant

Transplanting your young plants can be one of the riskiest time periods in a marijuana plant’s life. It can easily go wrong — and if it does, your plant could be ruined.

You’ll know your plant is ready to be transplanted once it has an established root system.

Do this before your plant becomes root bound, as that can cause loads of issues.

Do your research before transplanting. Here are some do’s and don’ts:

Don't water your plants the day before transplanting (or even the day before that).
Do not touch the roots at all during the transplant.
Water your plants right afterward and reduce the nutrient level by half
Don't make the light on your plants too intense for a couple days afterwards.
