Rastafari: The Origin.
In a previous post to this one I gave a little sketch about what was the Rastafari, as a brief introduction to other posts, like this one I will write about "THE ORIGIN OF RASTAFARI".
Rastafari or the Rastafarian movement is named after the combination of "Ras (which in Ethiopian language means Prince) and Tafari Makonnen (which were the real names of Emperor Haile Selassie I)".
Pan-Africanism, African-American revivalism, Hinduism, the Judaeo-Christian tradition, were spiritual, philosophical and ideological currents that greatly influenced the creation or origin of Rastafari in Jamaica, without forgetting African traditions such as the Kumina of Congo among others.
Within the origin of Rastafari there was an important figure as Marcus Garvey was the founder of the Universal Association for the Improvement of Negroes (UNIA).
From Jamaica, it spread to the entire Caribbean, between the black communities of Britain and the United States. In the Bible they find their fundamental basis for their protest movements.
And they saw Emperor Haile Selassie I as the incarnation of God on earth.
The purpose of a Rastafarian is to go on a straight and true path, with kindness, brotherhood, truth. They are identified or recognized by their rastas or dreadlocks (characteristic hair) and their sacramental use of ganja (marijuana), although not everyone uses ganja or wears dreadlocks.
Today this religion has spread throughout much of the world, with followers from different cultures, languages and nations.
I actually took some features as the most outstanding about the origin of Rastafari. Since there are several versions about its origin depending on who says it, but in what they all agree, that for them the Emperor was the God on Earth.
