The Evolution of the Metaverse!

in #metaverse3 years ago (edited)

As of right now, we think of the metaverse as a completely immersive internet where we may access augmented and virtual reality and engage with a variety of locations using enduring avatars and cutting-edge computer technology.

  • A scientist named Sir Charles Wheatstone first proposed the idea of binocular vision in 1838, in which two images—one for each eye—could be combined to create a single 3D view. Here, it is important to notice that newer VR headsets still use this idea.

  • Pygmalion's Spectacles, written by American science fiction author Stanley Weinbaum, was published in 1935. In this book, the main character uses a set of spectacles that provide sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch to explore a fantastical world.

  • Later, in 1956, Morton Heilig created the first VR device, the Sensorama Machine, which immersed the viewer with 3D film, sounds, smells, and a vibrating chair to recreate the experience of riding a motorcycle in Brooklyn

  • Then, in the 1970s, MIT created the Aspen Movie Map, allowing people to experience an artificially intelligent tour of the Colorado town of Aspen. For the first time, viewers may utilise virtual reality to travel to another location.

  • Finally, the phrase "metaverse" was first used in Neal Stephenson's renowned science fiction novel Snow Crash, which was released in 1992. Characters might travel to Stevenson's Metaverse, a virtual world, to get away from their oppressive reality.

  • In 2014, Google debuted its first Cardboard gadget and Google Glass AR glasses, and Sony and Samsung also stated that they were developing their own VR headsets. Two years later, in 2016, Microsoft's HoloLens headsets made news by introducing mixed reality (AR and VR) to the public for the first time.

  • IKEA, the world's largest furniture retailer, entered the Metaverse a year later with the help of its ground-breaking Place app, which lets users choose a piece of furniture and see how it would look in their house or place of business.

  • A significant turning point in the development of the Metaverse occurred in 2021, when Facebook changed its name to Meta to reflect its commitment to guiding the Metaverse's destiny.
