Restaurant of the Year? I got this!

When hitting www.tasteem.io this afternoon, I was HOPING there would be a category/contest worthy of my favourite restaurant.....and here it is! Perfect timing @tasteem!

Regular readers of my blog will recall I mentioned The Red Rabbit a little while ago while showcasing an excellent local entrepreneur and restauranteur https://steemit.com/food/@zekepickleman/entrepreneurial-spotlight-big-restaurateur-in-a-small-town I teased that this review would be coming as the first of 3 of Jessie's awesome places.

We approached the Red Rabbit after sun had set for our yearly christmas party. What better time to get out, enjoy unique and delicious cuisine, and pour some money back into a business that supports us as their technology partner?

The place is full as usual and it is nice to be seen there by a few people I know from around town. The furnishings and decor are all custom made by artisans right in the community so you will not see anything like this place. The food is also sourced locally with no expense spared getting the best ingredients, or paying for the fantastic staff who are impeccable on the food and the experience.

Before getting into the food, and sticking with the decor theme, even the unisex washrooms are cool, arty and trendy.

But we all came here for the food. The menu comes on one simple yet informative sheet and is classified into Carnivore and Herbivore.

Carnivore

Here, we got to chose from chicken, beef, pork, duck/goose and even gefilte fish! I personally selected from this side and went with the Pot Roast and some Fries as a side.

IMG_5138.jpg

The beef seemed so tender that it flaked apart like it was the sweet potatoes and other veggies. The Au Jus in the bottom had such a rich flavour that this relatively small dish ended up tasting like 3 dishes! I had a bunch of the fries and very garlicy aioli and had a bunch to share with my date and the other guests.

Herbivore

Speaking of Herbivore, that is what my better half decided she was tonight. Here, it was not so much specific veggies from which to choose, but different cuisines from across the globe. Polish, Southern USA, Greek, Irish, and British to name a few.

The selection ended up being the Sweet Potato Perogies which were as much Indian with the masala and raita and they were DELICIOUS! Her side was the Colcannon which I had never heard of but discovered might be an Irish favourite. Very fancy and special mashed potatoes and they were not lying about the butter.

The service was fast but the atmosphere was relaxing and promoted a great conversation and visit. Adam is my guy there and I didn't even have to tell him what kind of beer I wanted as he picked a couple different brews for the meal and I loved them all.

IMG_5136.jpg

Jessie herself even stopped by as she was finishing her shift and was headed over to Okazu (her other restaurant across the square.) She is so fancy, even the inside of her winter coat glitters.

DESSERT!

IMG_5140.jpg

You didn't think I would spend the evening here and not share the dessert menu with you did you? Take a look at that! Cheesecake, banana bread, dessert bars and sundaes are something you see many places. Not like this!

IMG_5142.jpg

The warm relaxed lighting makes it so that the colours on the dishes don't pop but hopefully you can get a good idea what the Chicago Style Sundae may have tasted like. Even the next day we were talking about the cheddar cheese icecream, caramel popcorn and drizzle. What a unique texture and just the perfect decadent flavour.

IMG_5143.jpg

The banana bread was equally as glorious and I had to snap it fast before it was scarfed up....hence the blurriness!

IMG_5144.jpg

The Nanaimo Bar was not as advertized because I NEVER had anything like this in my childhood. Imagine the @actifit steps to work that off!

IMG_5147.jpg

I opted instead for the Monte Cristo coffee. Made from coffee from the local cafe across the street and all the goodness behind the bar.

IMG_5146.jpg

It would seem that everything about our evening was perfect. From the owner right down to the young guy polishing the silverware and helping out, everyone did a great job. I generally will pop in for a beer with the bartender in early evenings or late night bourbon. Having a meal here is always special and our Christmas party seemed even more special.

In my humble opinion, Red Rabbit is the restaurant of the year for too many reasons covered here!

We did end up following Jessie over to Okazu for after dinner drinks. Another fantastic experience that I will have to wait for my next Tasteem Review!

I see sit-ups in your future

Looks like a great place to dine. I love the fact that the food is purchased locally. Not only is that good for other local businesses, it is a green way to get your food as it doesn't require the food to be trucked from hundreds of miles away.
Nice review.
Happy New Year to you and your family.
