SSS - Sunday Steemit Sailing!
Well I checked outside today and it is still FRIGGIN COLD.....meaning sailing season is still a ways off for this canuck. I don't have a hull to refinish or ropes to pull and weekend drinkin' like it is regatta time doesn't fill the sailing void. So, I look at pictures, plan out the summer regattas and share it here on STEEMit.
If you have been following the weekly sailing blog a while, you might recall that some of the highlights of the summer season are the regattas we have been competing in for the last 15 years. This year's crew will be the same as the one from the last couple years which makes it really nice to know your crew mates and how to work together.
Here is the crew: We don't pose lots but are forced to when we take the North American Championship title.
Because of a busy summer with the family and all the other stuff I do (run a business, camping, kids chauffeur, beer, summer hockey, Jiu Jitsu, golf, beer, sailing etc) I will only be participating in 2 regattas.
J-Fest
http://www.thenyc.com/racing/regattas/2018-jfest/ There is a nice fleet of J27s at this and we took first place last year. More importantly, the committee puts on boat races ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boat_race_(game) ) where a team from each fleet competes against the others for beer chugging supremacy. The j27 team won this as well last year and we are looking to repeat this year! This is a relatively new regatta for us and for them I think but we have brought the crazy crew of J-27s to support match racing and contribute to the community.J27 North American Championship
The second one will be the Oakville Yacht Squadron yearly regatta which has been home to the North American J-27 Championship. We have had between 12 and 20 J-27s over the last half dozen years which is a huge deal to have that many of one boat, all crewed up and ready for match racing. Our skipper is the mastermind and main coordinator for that whole movement and he has built it, so the J-27s have come. These tend to mash themselves together in my mind as I can't recall whether we placed 2nd or 3rd last year. Doesn't matter, we are competitive, are a threat to win it again, and are going to have a hell of a lot of fun trying.
I am working on getting some video footage and putting together some fun coverage of these events using dtube, or even dlive for the STEEMit crowd and fellow @knot sailors.
Well I am all warmed up again and I should be good for another week. I have new gloves too!
Wow congrats on winning the title!
Haha that one was from a few years ago and we generally win at least one regatta a year. Hopefully we can pull it together again this year for another north american title!
I'll say a special prayer for you to win in the coming regattas. ⛵
Keep shining Sir @zekepickleman
It would be neat and entertaining I suppose but we win just by competing and having fun (and drinking beer) A championship is just a bonus and another flag for the skipper.
Once again, the zest you have for life is uplifting!
I am not sure it is zest for life as much as not taking myself seriously enough to be unable to find humour in my failure as I traipse through adventures. Or maybe that is an ingredient for zest?
Definitely an ingredient. What shines through is your JOYFUL INVOLVEMENT regardless of outcome. Which actually frees us to be successful at whatever we engage in. So, repeat my original comment!
