Dama Dam Mast Qalandar is a spiritual Sufi Song, it was originally written by Amir Khusrow and modified by Bulleh Shah, both the
Sufi Poets wouldn't have imagined that the innocent people would be made part of history while singing their poetry at the Sharine of Lal Shabaz Qalandar in Sehwan Shareef, Sind earlier this month.
Sufi is a person who seek divine Truth and love with direct encounters with the God, leading to self annihilation (Fana) and culminating in everlasting life with God (Baqa), the practice is Sufism, Mysticism or Tasawaf.
There are different Titles of sufis like Qalandar, Faqir, Darvesh etc but whatever adjectives are given to the person who spreads peace and love and talks about the inner enlightenment deserves to be tributed in a befitting manner.
The contribution of all Sufis from Hasson Basri to Rabia Basri and from Bayazid Bistami to Ghous E Azam Abdul Qadir Jilani, from Ali Hajwari to Bakhtiar Kaki and From Lal Shabaz Qalandar to Syed Nausha Qadiri was incredible, they Always pinned their faith on God in all their trials and tribulations. sufis' lives were so pure and simple that Caliphs, Sultans and Emperors from Umyads to Abbasids and from Mehmood Ghazni to Akbar the Great used to touch their feet.
From 7th century to 17th century all these sufis played the pivotal role in saving the very edifice of Islam but the question of questions... the blasting of their shrines stares us in the face, when these Qalandars were spreading love and peace, enabling the people to understand the true meaning of Islam, Europe was in dark ages. People in London were living in such a pathetic condition that they used to eat and sell the human meat in the markets. when these sufis were holding the beacon of ligh, the Bishops of Rome were declaring the kings as heretics because the kings used to take bath and washed their hands like Muslims.The sufis were spreading the true meanings of the Holy Quran, the people in Europe were being roasted over a fire, on account of translating the Bible into English. When these sufis were preaching that Integrity, was the way to Paradise, the Bishops in Europe were issuing the certificates of Heaven; when Martin Luther was denied the contract of such certificates, he protested against the Roman Catholic Church and became the God Father of the Protestants.
When these sufis were teaching the Respect, Manners and Etiquette to the people, the human trafficking was a lucrative business in Europe and the price was 5 shillings per person.
When these sufis were giving respect to non Muslims, the Muslim in Spain were being trialled in religious courts to accept Christianity or face dire consequences; when the Muslims refused, almost 28540 were hanged and 12000, were burnt alive.
The Sufis were preaching the lessons of clealiness of soul and body, there in France the French kings used to release their excretions, besides their Royal Throns, compelling the courtiers to spray different fragrances to counter the noisome smell; it was how the Aroma Industry flourished in France.
I don't know what wrong these Sufis, Qalandars, Darveshs and Faqirs have done? Why these spirituals are not left even after their leaving the world. Had they done anything wrong, they would not have been revered even after the centuries.
I claim the terrorists can't steal a march upon these sufis and Qalandars because sufis are motivated by the love of God and they teach universal compassion and their followers also reciprocate by singing.....
