ZeroZeroZero. Witness the Next Evolution in TV content.

It is now a trend these days among all the other streaming platforms to have their own take on a narco/drug warfare related show. Just Netflix in its entirety has three shows of the respective category that I've been watching for a couple of years now, which are Narcos, El Chapo and Ozark. All are grand storylines about the ups and downs of the drug empires, their rise, and fall.

To compete with such shows drawing heavy viewership, Amazon prime in partnership with Sky Original has released its own take, ZeroZeroZero.

Now, shows about cocaine, meth or heroin, all have one single thing in common, a single character as the pinnacle of the drug trade and their origin. This show is like that, but it has three. It tells the tale of How smart, educated individuals with resources if left unchecked can rise to such extent that they become deities in illegal trades. Or at least their origin until they fall.

ZeroZeroZero follows such three storyline which are more intertwined than it should've been. Three characters rising to the top. One highly intellectual whole seller, a skilled smuggler and one family of distributors. And how they by facing all the conflicts, they become gods.

Though this show is not on the top spot in this genre, still it has the potential and promises to become what the others have tried.

It's nice to see such competition among the on-demand services that creates the necessity of producing better shows. There was a time when tv show meant a one-paragraph long plot stretched into a 24 episode tv show. Those are still popular among many, shows like Flash or the Arrow, but those shows are in their sunset.

The Original Book

While the streaming platforms are producing content that will keep you hooked and only after finishing it, you'll be able to tell if it was good or bad by creating binge watchable content.
Two things that drew me to this show are, One, it is based on the book “Gomorrah”, written by Roberto Savino which I've had the pleasure of reading as a translation in my own native tongue. It was a complex thriller with a strong narrative that will keep you up for two nights reading.

Two, Dan DeHaan, a smokey-eyed actor who had the potential to become our generations, Jared Leto. But he only chooses to be seen as that guy who plays the anti-hero character on the down-low side. At least that is what it seems from what he has been doing for the last couple of years or so.

One of the three side-by-side story lines follows the Lynwood family. Owner of a well-respected shipping company whose head is Edward Lynwood, the father. A botched meeting about a shipment of cocaine results in him being shot and later died. So his offspring, Chris and Emma, the sibling take it on their shoulders to deliver the promised shipment of cocaine.
And this story takes form from there.

The second story is about a highly skilled soldier from an elite regiment. When he chooses to break all bad and build his own drug empire by killing the biggest drug lord in the vicinity.

The third story revolves around an Italian/Sicilian drug family. When Don Minu, the grandfather comes out of hiding that he had been for years, the grandson tries to remove him as the decision-maker of the family by taking the help of another rival family.

This take of amazon on the drug world is quite the different one from all the usual drama that I've seen over the years. Its that kind of violent show where suddenly you will see somebody get decapitated and while it's uncensored, the head then gets picked up to be seen clearly.Or when you have to drink fresh pig blood as a symbol of trust. Like True Detective and Twin Peaks in its essence.

This reminded me of Sicario so much. The high voltage movie about narco war, assassins, and the DEA. Such multidimensional story lines are quite enjoyable things to watch. you'll never know what's going to happen next and that’s what matters if one wants to be drawn towards something that’s quite epic in its entirety.
