2018 Pakistan 🇵🇰 Elections ☑️- 3 DAYS TO GO - VOTE 4 Right ✌️| USE YOUR TRUE & LOGICAL POWER 🎓👌☪️
UPCOMING PAKISTAN ELECTIONS - 2018 ☑️🇵🇰🎌🌙 VOTE 4 ✔️
Most of you probably don't know this, but back in 2013 before the General Elections, I (@zaraAnwar) actually endorsed PTI and Imran Khan.
Despite my concerns and deep disagreements with Imran Khan and his political views, I truly did take him at his word when he said that his was an ideological #party. A party that was against the status quo. I had my misgivings. I disagreed with him over his foreign policy views, his interior policy views, his lack of clearly defined economic and social development policies and his flip-flopping all over the liberal-conservative scale. But I still endorsed the PTI.
Because I believed in him, there is no other party in Pakistan which has some different views other than all others. #ImranKhan is the only person, to which we can take a chance on him, #PPP #PMLN #MQM #JAMAT-E-ISLAMI etc, all these have been given two or three chances but no one proved its performance.
The reasons were many and varied. We were just coming out of Pakistan's first ever full civilian rule which had been allowed to terminate naturally. Despite the debacle that is PPP's 2008-2013 rule over Pakistan, the reality was that we all believed (and I still do) that democracy is the only form of self cleansing mechanism that is appropriate for a country.
The democratic process must continue, no matter how bad our choices, no matter how worse our candidates. Despite sacrificing two Prime Ministers at the altar of the Supreme Court, the PPP government completed its term. But they were wiped out; relegated to the status of a local provincial party. The PPP soon became a part of the backdrop. It was PML-N's turn.
But I had actually been rooting for the PTI to come out on top. The reality is that for a party which was contesting its first elections, the PTI did astoundingly well. It won KPK, and became the major opposition party in the center and Punjab. But it just wasn't good enough for #ImranKhan.
Fast forward a year, and we had the dharna, cries of foul play, uncouthness and thuggery being mainstreamed, talk of 35 punctures and the umpire's finger going up. This was not the man I had believed in. And my faith in him, which already wasn't too strong, completely shattered. Here was a man who had proclaimed repeatedly that he was an ideologue of a new Pakistan, completely disregarding his principles to more or less, cry about not becoming Prime Minister. Maybe the fault lies not with him, but myself. I believed Imran Khan was a liberal with the charsima to unite the country but he proved me wrong. I think he proved all of us wrong.
And since then, it's been one long list of debacles that Imran Khan even refuses to acknowledge. There was the time Imran Khan allowed the Jamaat-e-Islami to take control of KPK's education ministry [as pointed out by a commenter below, this is not true — the PTI and JI reached a compromise and PTI retained the education ministry for itself.
They both agreed that the curriculum would be updated with mutual consultation]; there was the time Imran Khan, after witnessing Punjab pass the historic Violenece Against Women bill strangled a version of the bill that was presented in the #KPK assembly "because it did not conform to Islamic principles as explained by the CII"; there was the time the government of KPK handed over Rs 300 million to Jamia Haqqania, whose founder #Sirajuddin #Haqqani calls himself the father of the Taliban.
A lot of you at this point are probably wondering: so what? At least he's better than Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari. But is he really though???
I rage against Rana Sana and his infatuation with the ASWJ, but Imran Khan is on a whole other level. His whole premise is that he's better than them, but he's gone ahead and stuffed his party full of turncoats from the PML-N and PPP. Not only that, but he has formed an alliance with the Sunni Tehrik, his finance and economic advisor Asad Umar went ahead and sought the endorsement of Fazlur Rehman Khalil (founder of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen) and then defended it.
All of these men and entites are sectarian terrorist organizations. But again, it matters nary to you. Just today I read a comment from a fanboy who said "Sunni Tehrik is not that bad" and Imran Khan needs their support for "us." Do you even listen to yourselves?
Here's my two cents on this whole debate: Always hold your leaders to a higher standard, but those standards cannot be arbitrary. If Rana Sana gets flak for fraternizing with ASWJ, so should Asad Umar. If Shehbaz Sharif gets flak for building the Metrobus, so should Imran Khan. If Ayaz Sadiq gets flak for being a sexist pig, so should Pervaiz Khattak.
Do not be hypocrites. Do not be mindless sheeple either. In the end, vote for whoever it is you want to vote for. Whoever comes to rule will eventually have to bend to the will of the people. It is inevitable.
