Japan's Anime Headquarters

Akihabara District in Tokyo, Japan is the world headquarters for Japanese anime, manga, comic books, video games, and electronics.

After WWII Akihabara was best known as a black market for electronic goods like radios and refrigerators which earned them the nickname “Electric Town” but fast forward to the 1980s when those same household electronics began to loose their futuristic appeal, so the shops shifted their focus towards home computers at a time when they were only used by specialists and hobbyists. This brought in a new customer the computer nerd or OTAKU and they ran with it!
