Serbie to have first gay prime minister as Ana Brnabic is chosen

The president of Serbia has nominated a gay woman to be his prime minister in a double first for the deeply conservative Balkan state. Ana Brnabic was chosen by the new President, Aleksandar Vucic. Her approval by parliament will be largely a formality, as his party and its allies hold an overwhelming majority. Just a few years ago, the appointment would have been unthinkable. But EU hopeful Serbia can present it as proof of increasing tolerance. Ms. Brnabic is not only Serbia's first openly gay PM, but also the first woman in that post. "I believe that Brnabic has professional and personal qualities to be prime minister," Mr. Vucic told reporters. He made no mention of her sexuality. Politics is a pretty sticky situation when it comes to the whole LGBT movement and everything, but Brnabic's sexuality really hasn't affected peoples' opinions on here, and her elections just proves how far the LGBT community has gone as far as equality goes and personally, I cannot wait to see more progress within the LGBT community as far as politics go.

That is really cool! I remember that Serbia was very anti-LGBT when I lived there in 2004, I am really glad to see that things are changing!

This is pretty cool, Its awesome to see the increasing tolerance especially among conservative governments.

Why should someone else's sexual preference or habits be of any concern to anyone; if you are voting for someone to work within the government, shouldn't it be based on their policies, and not what they do in the bedroom?
