Adore is the fourth studio album of the American alternative rock band Smashing Pumpkins. It was released on June 2, 1998 by Virgin Records. After the multi-platinum success of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and the subsequent year of world tour, the follow-up Adore was considered by MTV as "one of the most anticipated albums of 1998". After three increasingly successful rock albums and the departure of drummer Jimmy Chamberlain, the band members have been struggling to solve the lingering interpersonal problems and musical uncertainties, and recording the album proved to be a challenge. Lead singer Billy Cogan later described Adore as "the band fell apart." Kogan also experienced divorce and the death of his mother while recording the album.

The result is a softer and electronically colored sound, which Greg Cot of Rolling Stone calls "a complete break with the past." This album split the fan base and sold only a small part of the first two albums. However, this album was well received by critics, becoming the third consecutive pumpkin album to be nominated for the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Performance, and it gained a fanatical following. In September 2014, as part of the band's re-release of the 1991-2000 later catalog project, the remastered and expanded version of the album was released on CD and vinyl records.
