Ballers Only
As you probably don't know, for most of my life basketball was my sport of choice. More recently I've become more of a soccer fan and have played a lot of soccer too, but basketball was definitely my first love! I remember one of the more exciting Christmas presents of my life was when my parents bought a basketball hoop to put up on the edge of our driveway. I spend many a summer night outside playing H-O-R-S-E with my brothers, practicing my free throws, and dunking to my heart's content (on a significantly lower hoop than normal, just for the record. At my peak levels of athleticism I was able to dunk a volleyball, but never quite got a basketball to go down). I have some of the weakest ankles known to man, so in recent years playing basketball usually ends up with me re-spraining an ankle and regretting my decision to play for the next several weeks. Now that I think of it, I'm probably due to play again and re-sprain something!
I saw this old, run-down hoop in a schoolyard while shooting some engagement pictures, and it brought back fond memories of playing basketball on whatever hoop happened to be around at the time. I'm curious if any of you grew up playing sports, and if so, what sports? I'm sure there's a wide variety with how multi-cultural the Steemit community is. Let me know in the comments!
Awesome to learn a little about your background dude, not sure that football will be much better for the ankles but I guess basketball is about as hardcore as it gets for them! I spent most of my childhood swimming, I was doing 20+ hours per week to the age of 18 but once I quit I lost all motivation for it. Even now that I'm doing a lot of triathlon training, I just can't muster up the enthusiasm for a swim! I don't mind open water (if it's WARM!) but otherwise I'd much rather be on the bike or out running, it's hard to get excited when you know you'll never get back to your 14 year old former self!
Yeah, turns out soccer just wrecks my knees now! Sprained my MCL last year and haven't been able to play much since then :( Man, I just can't get excited about swimming at all haha. I love water, and I love the idea of swimming, but if there's not like a ball to chase or something like that I have a hard time getting into endurance sports!
Not surprised, once you get tendon/ligament injuries they tend to be hard to fully recover from - or at least they tend to reoccur! I know the feeling, I can't get any enthusiasm for swimming! I find I just enioy cycling because I like looking at the scenery!!
Ugh, yeah, it's so dumb and makes me feel so old! Gonna just have to take up knitting or something I guess haha. Agreed on the cycling! That's something I can get behind.
Yeah, I guess it's just time to accept it and wait for the darkness to take you. Knitting's probably a decent way to pass the time till then.
Agreed. Hopefully I get some nice mittens out of it at least!
I grew up in Northern Minnesota and played non stop hockey all winter long. Every small town in the north has a public hockey rink (mostly outdoors) and a warming shack. I remember countless night playing with the neighborhood kids. Some of the best memories of my life.
Ooh man, sometimes I wish I had grown up playing hockey! Ohio isn't an ideal place for outdoor hockey, but in the last three years or so a group of friends and I have gotten into playing pond hockey when the weather allows. It is seriously some of the most fun I've ever had, there's something so satisfying about the game and it feels so good after you're done playing. That would be so awesome to have a full Minnesota winter to play hockey in though!
Good shot, this hoop looks like it's seen a lot of games. I don't have much experience with playing basketball on the street, maybe because I liked dunking in video games instead wheeeee
Haha for sure! It's lived a full life I'd say. Ooh fair enough, I played so much NBA Live 2003 on my computer growing up. Good times!
