Achievement 2 @yumbem Task: Basic security on steem
Introduction
Security is one of the biggest thing everyone wants in every aspect of life. Imagine you living in a house where everyone has your keys to the house your safety isn’t grantee . Here in steemit security is very important ,so a series of keys has been put in place which is unique only to one account each and which is not easy to by pass.
I will be explaining the security by answering the following questions.
Have you retrieve all your keys on steemit?
Do you know each of these key functions and restrictions?
How do you plan to keep your master password?
Do you know how to transfer your steem token to another steem user account?
Do you know how to power up your STEEM?
I could not have done this work without getting some ideas from @event-horizon.
Question 1
Have you retrieve all your keys on steemit?
Yes I have retrieved all my keys .
I did downloaded the keys after signing up for an account in steemit this key where downloaded in a pdf form which I saved them in my phone and computer .I also did a hard copy printed copy for safety purposes.
Question2
Do you know each of these key functions and restrictions?
Yes I know each of the functions of the keys and their restrictions. The keys are;
Master password
Active key
Posting key
Owner key and memo key.
Master password
This password when you sign up to steemit you get this password which you use to get the other keys.If another person get access to this password he or she can steel your account or all your tokens in it .
Posting key
This another very important key which is used for login , posting of write ups, commenting on other posts on the platform or on your our post . You can also use it to edit what ever you want in you account, voting ,resteem,following or muting other account also requires this key.
Active keys
You can not talk of transfer of tokens, power up or down , converting SBD to steem, voting for witnesses without using the active keys also updating your profile details need this key.
Owner key
This key is used only when necessary because of the power it has. It is used to change any key of an account including it self.
Memo key
This key is used for encryption and decryption.
It is used when transferring tokens.
Question 3
How do you plan to keep your master password?
I have printed my master password on a hard paper which is been kept save with my other documents also I have a copy in my phone and my computer.
Question 4
Do you know how to transfer your steem token to another steem user account?
Yes
You go to your wallet
Login using your username and active key
Click on the drop down menu beside steem
- Select transfer input your username and the username of the person you want to transfer steem to,put in the amount then click on next.
- Then click ok to ok
After all this steps the steem you want to transfer will have been sent to the other user.
Question 5
Do you know how to power up your STEEM?
Same like transfer login to your wallet using your username and active key
- Click on the bottle beside steem and Select power up
- Input the amount of steem you wan to power up then click on power up.
Conclusion
These keys are put in place for the basic personal security measures in steemit in addition to many other security measures the platform runs .so keeping these keys safe like in hard drivers ,on papers will help you not to loss your account no matter what and make sure it doesn’t fall in the hands of a wrong person.
