Homefront: The Revolution, Great In 2017

in #gaming9 years ago

Homefront: The Revolution is a first-person shooter video game that was release back in 2016 on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. On release, the game got a number of bad reviews, which in turn resulted in a sharp fall in price.

I was able to pick up a copy of the game on the PS4, here in the UK for under £5 ($6.63). I didn’t expect much from the game because of the reviews, but I thought for the price, I should be able to get my money's worth.

Playing the game now in 2017, as allowed the game to receive a number of patches. So, after downloading a patch that was over 11GB in size. I guess that I am now playing a much improved game, compared to the one playable on release.

I wanted to get the patch details out of the way so not to be biased, to any early reviewer of the game, who may have played the game under different circumstances.

I must start my saying this; if you played the game before the patches and did not like it. It is worth picking up the game again at this lower price, patching it, then given it another go.

I say this, due to the fact of how much I enjoyed the game. I played the single player campaign for the most part, since that is what I mostly enjoy.

Now since Homefront: The Revolution is set in an open world. I found myself with many things to do, besides the main story itself. Once I realised that I could improve my weapons and gear, by scavenging supplies around the gaming world. I instantly made it one of my main goals in my play-through of the game.

The customisation of the weapons and gear is amazing. For example; you can add a laser sight or a 4x sight to your gun for better accuracy, or a fore-grip for better stability when firing.

You can modify your weapons even further. So for example, I upgraded my shotgun to not only shoot standard rounds, but it could also be switched out in an instant to an Inferno Launcher, which fires rounds that deals fire damage to the enemies.

I also enjoyed using the Battle Rifle quite a lot, which was my go-to weapon for taking down enemies at a distance. This too could be switched out in an instant to the Freedom Launcher, which was great for taking out groups of enemies.

It is also possible to upgrade amongst other things, your gear. This includes your kneepads, so you can move faster while crouching, or your tactical vest so you can take more damage before dying. And your medical pouch, so you can heal a greater number of times, or your backpack capacity which allows you to carry more items.

Now all these upgrades cost money, which you can obtain from completing missions and tasks. So if you want to purchase a better upgrade that cost a lot of money. This would mean undertaking more missions and tasks. I thought this was great, since it added a type of RPG element to the game, that gave you more of a reason to explore the gaming world to seek rewards.

On the topic of exploring the world, you can also ride a bike that allows you to do this faster. But I found the control of the bike to be difficult at times, and so would mostly use it if need be.

The game is split into Zones, such as the Red, Green and Yellow. Each Zone requires you to play a little different, such as being more stealthy, or using different weapons on more powerful enemies. I thought this was great since it added more versatility to the gameplay.

The story wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. But it was good enough for me to want to get to the end and clear up a few things about the Resistance. The graphics, sound, and the overall atmosphere, were also good enough to keep me engrossed in the game from beginning to end.

If the game was released in the state it is now. I am sure it would have received better reviews, and more people would have seen it for what it truly is, a very good game.

If you enjoy first-person shooters, and want a game with a good length single-player campaign, plus multiplayer. Then you should consider picking this game up, since it is now at a great price.
