Achievement3 @youngshu1: Content Etiquette
What is Plagiarism
Through studies and research, I found out what Plagiarism is all about especially on #Steemit. Unfortunately, prior to this I have fallen victim to this i did ignorantly, but now, i can say i am well aware of it and the repercussions as I plan to do everything in my power. Plagiarism is the act of reproducing the material of others mainly in the act of copy and pasting without the knowledge of the individual or maybe without showing where you took it from. This is bad and should be avoided in all ways as it hinders originality of product.
Types of Plagiarism
- SELF PLAGIARISM
Self-plagiarism typically means one copies and paste content initially written by oneself.
This is typical in situations where we are supposed to write new material, especially for validation, and we just copy the first material we wrote and paste it. - DIRECT PLAGIARISM
This is the deliberate reproduction of another person’s content without their knowledge and even showing the original write-up link. - ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM
This type of plagiarism is the act of willfully reproducing another person’s content, but not providing a link to indicate the write up done by the author. - MOSAIC PLAGIARISM
Here, the culprit does not put the copied content in quotes, which indicates it is a borrowed phrase (from another source), or fails to show by any other means that the work is borrowed.
As expected, plagiarism should be avoided, as it tends to hurt the author when he sees his material being handled without his knowledge, and on the other end, discredits the culprit, because if fellow #Steemians realize content isn’t original, they wouldn’t trust the source.
Other Etiquettes to Consider on #Steemit
Plagiarism isn’t the other etiquette that we should focus on on Steemit. A few include:
Begging for votes: This is common especially for newbies as the tend to find more votes mainly through unscrupulous means like bribing, which helps to kill the morals both personally and collectively. It should be avoided at all costs.
Over Posting: Posting a lot may cause your followers not to take your contents seriously as well as resteeming it.
Upvoting and Commenting on other posts: Deliberately or not, many at times we usually post our contents and do not upvote the posts by fellow steemians while waiting for ours to. We ought to create time when necessary to congratulate or criticize each other as this helps to fortify the network.
Disadvantages of Plagiarism
It leads to low self-esteem and self-doubt. As you will think that you cannot come up with any material of your own.
It axes your reputation down very rapidly, because once people notice you don’t come up with original content, trust can never build.
If taken very seriously, the culprit may face a fine and even a prison sentence if guilty of the act.
I would greatly advise us to avoid copying and pasting materials without prior knowledge of the author, and if it reaches a case where it has to be done, let the material always be used as a reference (put in quotes). This gives respect to the original writer and promotes peace.
