Highlights while preserving moisture in the hair.

Highlights without frying your hair!

I'm a hairstylist and I LOVE the platinum blonde beach hair, but lets be real here. Many of my client's hair types are way too dry to execute this look without taking these precautions.

Make sure to watch the lightener the whole time while its developing. The hair starts to lift instantly, so keep your eyes on it. You can use 10, 20, 30, or even 40 vol. developer, depending on how light you want it. Remember, 10 vol. lifts 1 level and 20 vol. lifts 2 levels and so on.

If it sits on there too long, it will damage the hair and potentially fry it right off. I can't tell you how many woman I have known personally that have had to unfortunately, learn this the hard way.

When you wash it out, make sure to use a sulfate-free mointurizing shampoo and conditioner in order to preserve as much moisture as possible, as lightener tends to dry the hair out.

If you see some areas that are brassy and didnt lift high enough, DO NOT repeat with lightener. This will most definetly make the hair brittle and probably break right off. I recommend using a mild toner. This will even the blondes out and cancel out any brassy, yellowish tones.

If a toner is needed, do not condition when washing it out. Conditioner coats the hair follicle and cuticle. It tends to seal the hair shaft and wont allow the toner to penetrate the hair and in essence, wont do its job to the full extent.

Wait until after you rinse and shampoo the toner out then follow with DEEP CONDITIONING MASK. This is important to help restore the moisture that has left the hair during these chemical treatments. Follow the steps written on the container. I really like using Moroccon oil deep conditioning mask but it's all about preference. Choose whichever works best for you. (Not just the one that smells the best)

Good luck and feel free to ask any questions or just let me know what you think.... Just drop some in the comments, and I promise, I will respond.
