Can philosophy be learned in university?
Hari Om Steemers!
When a friend told me about this platform yesterday I just thought: why not? There are a lot of things I would like to share with you because I feel like I’m living very happily at this point of my live which has to do with the experiences I made and the confidence they gave me. My name is Vanessa I’m 23 and a lot of people including members of my family and old friends are worried that I’ll make my life a failure because I’ve quit my studies in university recently.
In school as well as in university I felt that the people there are brought to think what they’ve been taught not what they have experienced, which seemed very unnatural to me. Since I thought about philosophy as the great art of asking questions arising from your studies of the living world, which is the basis of every science, I felt very unhappy sitting in grey, stinky classrooms discussing about the concrete meaning of one or another passage of great nature philosophers, who could only appear poor in this unloving, unliving way of reading and discussing them. So I decided to use my time on this beautiful planet discovering its mysteries by living in different countries, amongst various people and creatures, learning from the living world and the old wisdoms as well as creating new ideas and all kinds of arts with everyone willing to.
This is a drawing I made while travelling in New Zealand in 2013. It shows Tāne Mahuta. This tree is connected with a lot of old Māori myths. A woman watched me do a little sketch of this incredible beauty and told me that this forest and especially the tree was very connected to her tribe. She spontaniously gave me her address and told me if I have the time to make a DINA4 sketch for her she would be very happy to give me any money I wanted. That sounded nice of course but I was not greedy, actually I thought I might not find the time to go at her place because I was mainly travelling the South Island and her address was in the north. Still, after the impression of this magic tree I felt like drawing it very detailed. Then 10 days before our flight to Australia was going, my friend and me had a problem with our bank accounts(which happened often) and we did not have enough fuel to get to Auckland where we wanted to sell the car but we had enough to visit this nice Lady. She liked the picture a lot and gave us enough money to drive back to Auckland, where we met other friends and had some nice adventures. But thats a different story. And there are so many because there are so many awesome people around.

Some shot from India. Many storys to come <3
From this blog you can expect... what ever is coming to my mind when I feel like writing... Maybe I’ll share some treasured travel memory with u or post a picture I just painted. Maybe I’ll give u a Yoga class, since I’m a trained teacher or I'll write a raging article about the exploitation of the world by corporations and the present monetary system. Maybe there will be poems, music or movie projects and maybe I'll give u updates on protests I'm participating in. Maybe I’ll be discussing philosophy based on my life experience or based on any authors words I currently adore or maybe I’ll be not writing at all, because I’m somewhere without internet connection or a lazy as… That was a lot of maybe, but who knows what time might bring? I love the fact that my live is unpredictable because I can take chances spontaneously and go for new ideas to constantly grow.
This short videoclip I made with a friend. The idea was very spontanious when we were walking and discussing other projects. It is about leaving the cementprison to learn from nature. I think this is really important for we are natural beings in the end. Even if we are able to communicate with other people from all over the world now we should not forget to communicate with all the living beings surrounding us.
Lots of Love and Light to all of you <3
