Mountains Layered Painting using Watercolour

Hello dear Steemians! Yesterday I was doing some painting exercise and I thought of sharing it on Steemit today. It is an exercise that I did after getting inspired by Makoccino's video. I am not at home today as I'm traveling so I am using my mobile. This is my first esteem post and I hope I do it right.

This is a simple painting exercise that can be used to create beautiful layered paintings. I chose to do a simple mountains painting. The medium that I used was watercolour. I decided to go with the flow so I did not draw or mark anything on my paper beforehand. First of all, I used the wet on wet technique for the first layer. I painted a thin layer of water on the paper. Then, I painted a very dilute yellow paint. I left the middle area empty to create a light illusion.

Then, I added some orange at the corners to create a wide looking space. The point was to create a vague sunset.

I painted my first layer of mountains. These are the furthest mountains which is why I made their shade light.

These are the second layer of mountains. I made them slightly darker than the previous shade by adding more paint.

Here comes the twist. At this point, I felt that the artwork was looking too empty so I added another layer of mountains on top. Now, these will be the new group of furthest mountains, which is why I added a lot of water to the paint to make it the most diluted colour i.e. the lightest shade. I also lifted some of the paint at the sides to make the background lighter using a wet clean brush and tissue.

Finally, I painted some mountain forest and bushes at the bottom and sides over some of the previous mountains. I made this part darker. The darkest part refers to the one closest to us. The painting is done. It is just a painting I did for fun and as an exercise. Thank you for dropping by and I hope that you have a great day!
