... memory. i had no idea while painting it, that i never needed to symbolise the experience related to the elephant as unforgettable. pleasant or unpleasant, the feeling comes right back to me eveytime i walk from kastanienalee towards mauerpark. after i painted this, it became one of the most painful experiences in my life. unfolding into an intense relationship that ended in so much pain, engraved into my soul and yet as well into this canvas as a beautiful and unforgettable memory. a lesson about love. the irony behind it is that there aren't any free elephants roaming around berlin. A mnemonic for eternity. no doubt that i love berlin!
