Oh, the Cheery Melancholy... of Hotels (Day 12)

Hotels

Oh, the cheery melancholy
of those restless resthouses
half-way homes, away from home

Come, check into these dens
you patrons of boredom, lust
and pay-per-view entertainment

Such privileged inmates
showered simulated warmth
impatiently, switching channels

You do not see yourselves
as the night does, shadows
in a flickering monster-screen

Feverish with life, then dead-still
each cell a pulsating peephole
to an unassuming dress rehearsal

A pitiable gallery of characters
pacing or seated, practicing lines
and fussing over their costumes

Each absorbed on various stages
curtains partially drawn or illumined
actors eagerly peering through

Onto an indifferent audience of trees
bare, and mapped out against the sky
like a nervous system

And snow flakes tumbling from above
as light and large as goose feathers
from a giant pillow fight.

This is what we call the exact sketching of any scene. You exactly did the same thing with your wonderful ability to select superb vocabulary while writing a poem, yes iam always a huge admirer of your work my friend @Yahia <3

Loved these lines the most ,

Each absorbed on various stages
curtains partially drawn or illumined
actors eagerly peering through

I like that you say sketching a scene since I view this poem as a short drama, or little play in verse :)

Thank you, and congratulations on the success of your own posts for this challenge 🙏🏼

you are a master poet, wonderful. shared on twitter

Very kind of you to say/do, thank you! (I'm also @yahialababidi on Twitter, btw :)

This is such a unique poem for you! It's concrete, verbose, and, like good cheese, it makes you go "My goodness!" I love the robust verbage and you've made an excellent observation on hotels and the people/attitudes that attend them!

Hey, thanks, for that enthusiastic and articulate response! (As a fellow cheese-lover, very pleased to have my work compared to a good one :) Wrote this poem as I observed, with mixed feelings, a couple making love in a hotel across the street... TMI?

Hmmm, maybe? I don't know, depends on how much you want us to know about you XD

Haha! Well, it's not something I sought out, or view, regularly :P

Such priveldged inmates !!! Nice line!
Man a poem about hotels !! I see them in a different light now

Haha, glad it tickled you :) Art can do that, make us see things, differently. I remember that after reading Gogol, the world was Gogolized

I have to go research that !

It's like another take on life is a stage. Those words are masterfully done.

Haha, yes! After Shakespeare, everything is merely commentary :) Glad you enjoyed my little play.

Friend, masterfully describes the center of illusion. Greetings.

Yes, that's exactly it... Illusions, vanity, quiet desperation. Thanks, for reading, @corderosiete _/|\_

Very good lyrics poem
