The launch of EOS is successful thus far, but will take a while to be fully operational.

EOS has finally successfully launched the EOS mainnet, soon to be freed from the shackles of its soon-to-be rival, Ethereum. Tokens have been frozen on the Ethereum blockchain and will take a while - between 24 and 48 hours if everything goes as planned - to be available in their newly spawned form as EOS currency.

During this launch sequence, traders have no choice but to wait. Following this period of time, the EOS Mainnet Launch Group will go through a validation process before "flipping the switch", so to speak, on June 10.

Following this validation process, the 21 initial block producers who form the backbone of this Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) consensus system will vote to initiate the launch to the public. This requires a commitment of 150 million tokens to carry through the vote.

EOS attempts to address problems with scalability and security with a proof of stake model that delegates votes to 21 super nodes. Some have criticized this as a form of centralization, while proponents have argued that 21 super nodes is sufficient decentralization to keep the network secure and free from collusion or manipulation, while enabling far higher transaction speeds and network capacity.

It will be interesting to witness how the market reacts to this launch. If there are any significant problems in the early stages, we could see severe drops in valuation almost immediately. On the other hand, if all goes well and EOS is proven to be as effective as its proponents have suggested it will be, there could be a significant rush of investment into the platform.
