Swapmeet Finds #2522
On the back of the first picture: "Charles Horsley". So now we can at least put a name to that black-garbed 1940s-era sailor first seen in post #2513 (and included below). Obviously, not one of the Laney boys, as I surmised. Anyway, he's got another interesting looking patch on his left shoulder. But of course we can't see it well enough to make out what it says (either). :-( I wonder if that big comb sticking out of his pocket is regulation? :-)

photography........ is fantestic. looking so handsome.....and pertty. your looks is sooo..... mindblowing
That badge on top needs some serious sleuthing! It looks like it's some sort of building. The badge on the lower photo looks like it's navy. Wait, it's not a building, it's a ship! Or is it. Maybe those are smokestacks? It's too old to be radar or nuclear, or anything like that. I'm going with a ship.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's a ship. And that's probably the name of the ship underneath it (too blurry to see)...
Are you sure it's from the 40s? Could it be a steamship?
Me, too. Coast guard was a good clue! It eventually led me to this: www.ebay.com/itm/222967615291 . So we know the patch in the bottom picture is a "US Maritime Service USMS Merchant Marine patch". And that patch led me to this one: www.ebay.com/itm/362286452440 . So now we can be pretty sure the patch in the top picture is a "US MERCHANT MARINE MARITIME SCHOOL PATCH"! Between the two of us, I think we solved this mystery. :-)
Brilliant!! I was going to explore Ebay next. Great find!
