Something tells me that all is not what it seems in this circa 1910s picture. I could be wrong, but this almost looks like a guy dressed up as a nurse! And the "U" on the sweater by his/her right hand (in what looks like a messy dorm room) leads me to believe this could be some kind of college prank. Or it could just be a plain-looking, flat-chested female nurse. :-)

Agreed. That was my initial thought. But then I just started looking closer at that face and doubts crept in... :-)
Yeah. Mannish features and an adam's apple. The closer I look, the more I think you're correct.
if that’s a woman and I was the patient, I think I’d prefer to take my chances. if that’s a man dressed as my nurse, same result, I’d rather take my chances
