Steemit Engagement Challenge S5-W1|My traditional Wear: Ankara, Isi-Agu & Senator Wears

in Hot News Community2 years ago

It is quite interesting reading your contest topic for the week and I'm delighted to be participating in the week's contest through your noble community "Hot News Community". The topic is an engaging one that also promotes steemexclusive content. We all have our ways of life so is the Traditional attire peculiar to us. Let's get started.

Traditional wears are a common way of displaying the cultures, beliefs, and norms of a given area. There's no group of people in a province, area council, state, or nation that do not have a way of dressing by which they are identified. I'm Nigeria where I do come from, this is typical of tribal, cultural beliefs.

Sometimes our traditional wear quickly gives us a representation of where we come from within the same country. And in solidarity and in the expression of oneness/unity, these clothes are exhibited on occasions across the board that represent us.

What are your native wear Names? Talk about each of them if many.

We have some key traditional/native wears whose material is their means of identification.

  • Ankara Traditional attire

This is one of the most commonly used materials in the whole country. It cuts across all tribal alienations. What may actually differentiate a tribe from each other even when the same Ankara Traditional attire is used is the style of sewing.

It is locally produced within the country which makes it relatively cheap and affordable to all. The coat most times also determines the quality which makes everyone have access to the qualify of choice.

  • Isi Agu (Tiger Head) Traditional attire

This is typical traditional wear that identifies people of the South-Eastern region of the country (Nigeria). It is a respectable kind of wear that depicts the symbol of authority. This can be seen from its use by most royal/traditional heads.

It comes in different qualities which makes it also affordable to everyone. It comes in different colors and places a sense of value on those that wear it.

  • Senator Traditional wears

This is another traditional attire that has since gained more fashion and styles for itself. It is likened to have a resemblance with the way the Ankara Traditional attire is styled but for this, it comes with a good sense of style, value, and status.

Just as the name, senator wears, it denotes some level of status and value. It is a type of wear that represent quality depending on the quality, style, and occasion when used.

How much can one cost? (Give price both in your local currency and steem)

All the above-mentioned traditional wears are expensive as well as affordable depending on one's taste. But the most affordable is the Ankara material which is relatively cheaper to be afforded by the man in the street.

Therefore the cost of purchase solely depends on the taste of quality. The cost of sewing is almost the same but varies slightly for the Isi Agu which mostly comes with an ordinary top.

Isi-Agu Wear800050
Senator Wear19,500121.875

This is a representation of the lowest cost of acquiring each of the traditional attires.

What is their durability?

Just like I mentioned above about their affordability, they are as well durable. The cost of acquiring each of these lines of fashion does not necessarily have much impact on its durability.

A major determinant of our durability is anchored in its rate of use and maintenance. We will not want to roughly use them and still want durability out of them. Moreover, these are status wears that are majorly and commonly used during events, weddings, and other high-profile gatherings which doesn't happen always.

Do you think it can be allowed to be worn in other places?

This is a traditional attire that is literally acceptable everywhere in the country. There are no limitations on where it can be used aside from places or institutions with a specific mode of dressing which is hinged on some days of the week.

It has the popularity of use dieting events like church activities, wedding ceremonies, birthday celebrations, other government, and non-governmental gatherings, etc. It is synonymous with weekend attire since these are days majority of these activities occur.

Are there any similarities between your local wear and other parts of the world?

No doubt, there are major similarities between the traditional attires used here and some of the counties within the continent and especially those within the country's borders.

Some of this traditional attire especially the use of Ankara and Senator Traditional wears are also observed in countries like Benin Republic, Cameroon, Ghana, Ivory coast, etc.

Conclusion

Traditional attire represents the people and the choices they made in the fashion world. It might be sectional and sometimes transnational in its adoption. One thing remains constant, it showcases the beliefs, norms, and cultures of a given set of people.

Thank you for putting up this great contest.

You have written with much clarity on the wears peculiar to your locality. Undoubtedly, Ankara is quite cheap and found almost in all parts of the country.

Senator materials are that classy wears that fit so well. I have seen Isi Agu many times but don't know its name, thanks to your article. I had a great time reading through and I wish you the best on this, @xkool24.

Hahaha, the "Isi-Agu" is the local dialect for the native wear. Funnily, that's the only name I've known it for. It is peculiar to people of South-Eastern region of Nigeria due to her culture.

Thanks for stopping by, boss
