Adventures In Wurm Online: Beginings
Greetings steemians!
Today I have something special for all of you! Something that's been dear to my heart for over 10 years. Today I'll be taking you into the world of Wurm Online. A high fantasy sandbox, role playing game.
Wurm Online began development back in 2003 and was released in 2012. The game is quite old and hosts over 700 players daily where people live out their virtual lives, some which have been here since the start!
My story started back in 2007 when I first discovered the game. I was quite young and hadn't a single clue how to play the game. I was mentored by others who at the time had to be in their late twenties, mid thirties, it was one of the most interesting online experiences I had at the time.
In 2011 I put the game and all that I had achieved on halt and left in pursuit of new experiences. But now I'm back and the world of Wurm is calling to their CHAMPION!
"That's me!" :P
Welcome to the world of Wurm!

part 2
Our adventure starts in a small down called Weed Control. It's been awhile since I've set foot in the lands of Independence, one of many continents in the Freedom isles.
So far the locals seem to be quite friendly and okay with my presence so long as I abide by the rules of the land. I've never been one for rules and I certainly do not like it when the barons and barrenness meddle in the lives of small folk like myself.
I can't complain however. So far the people have been very gracious. They've let me use their mine to gather iron which is much needed if I'm going to be able to create my own tools and weapons. As well as have nails and other materials for building a house which I soon hope to call home.

Most of the mine has already been dug out and the raw materials uncovered. All I had to do was walk down and collect what I needed. This has saved me a lot of time.
I'm not sure quite yet if I'll be staying in this town. There are some huge benefits that I would otherwise not get if I were to set out on my own. I'll need to reflect on this further.

I lit the forge in preparation for creating some nails that I need in order to begin working on a fenced area which I started a few days ago. I need to grow food if I'm going to survive the adverse elements around me.
Fortunately my neighbors have been gracious in lending me some provisions until I can support myself. I couldn't have survived without that help. The winter season is coming soon and I need to get a house up as quick as possible.
After creating some nails I decided I needed to fashion myself a spear. I made a spear head which reluctantly worked. I've never made one before and I'm by no means a blacksmith. Nonetheless it will come in handy while hunting for game. Something I'll also have to keep in mind in the days to come.
I haven't seen an animal in-sight for several days since my arrival here. I'm concerned that I'll have to travel a great distance in order to find food.
Yesterday I was ambushed by a couple of starving wolves, luckily the town guards were nearby and could assist. I wasn't prepared for it, but now I feel a little more comfortable knowing I have a weapon with me!
It has been awhile since I've fought anything as well. I should probably make it a priority once I have my garden going to practice on a training doll. Perhaps one of my neighbors would be able to help me in my effort.
After finishing the spear I felt like exploring a bit more of the land around me. There was so much to see and lots of questions I had running through my mind. I guess that can happen easily when you've been away for so long.
My little journey took me around the entire village of Weed Control. Here you can see the outskirts of the gatehouse and beyond a very tall mountain which name I do not know yet. And beyond, well I'm not sure. I'll have to travel as much as possible if I'm to rediscover the lands of Independence.

While on the road I discovered many wonderfully built places. The owners I've yet to meet but am looking forward too. All around me lush grass is growing as well as beautiful trees. I must enjoy this as long as possible, winter will be coming soon and the change will be drastic if I recall correctly.
The further I went I began to notice that large bodies of water seemed to circle around my location. I knew that I had settled somewhere close to the inner sea. Which by all means was intentional. I thought about finding a place somewhere high up and solitary. Like a mountain for instance, however I decided it would be best to settle down near water. For easy access and transportation when the time comes.
This saves me the need to have to search for water around the mountain, or from building a well which can be quite painful. It was clear though after some thorough examination that I was living on a small peninsula just off the west coast of the inner sea. This is fantastic! Not only is it hard for enemies to invade, but there's also room for a lot of commerce and trade from the sea.
Something I was very interested in participating in. One big change that I noticed since coming to Independence is this highway system which many people have banded to build. Most of the major trade hubs are now connected to a lot of the small villages. This is great as it'll make my life easier when trying to travel the roads.

"I can't remember the name of this particular home, everything you see in these pictures are all player made."

My traveling eventually lead me to a small town by the name of Wintermute Estates. The town was magnificent. It sat on top of a large hill. The more you ascended the more elaborate it became. While exploring it I ran into a fellow by the name of Translucent.
His horses were beautiful, someday I hop to have some of my own. The gentleman was wearing some sort of elaborate cloth. Nothing of the likes I've ever seen before. The embroilment I saw, nothing familiar to me. I couldn't make out whether he was apart of any alliance or faction.
He seemed friendly so I approached. Startled the man quickly turned to me and all the sudden seemed quite eager to introduce himself. As if he hadn't seen anyone in quite a long, very long time.
It was awkward, needless to say, but I was polite as he introduced himself. "Hello!" the stranger said to me. "My name is Translucent." It took me a minute to wrap my mind around such a name. I had never known anyone with a name such as Translucent. Maybe he wasn't from around here I thought to myself.
"If you're looking for a place to stay, I have some beds which you can use until you find your way." I explained to the man that I had already settled in elsewhere, not too far from where he was located. Without giving away any details of course, you can't fully trust anyone you just meet. That was something I learned really fast many years ago when I first traveled to the Freedom isles.
He coughed and muttered a few indescribable words while shifting back and forth for a moment. "No worries, glad to have another member in the community. If you need anything make sure to stop by." I thanked him for the kind gesture.
There was something off about the man. His face was covered by some weird helmet, or mask, I'm not sure which. I've never seen anything like it and judging by the way he held himself, the whole situation felt off to me. "It was a pleasure to meet you, Translucent." I said. I began my decent back towards my tent.
I decided to take a different route back. Most of the roads here seem to lead back towards one intersection which is nice. I wont have any difficulty remembering which direction goes where. If I ever get lost I can always trace my steps back towards the center.
It felt nice to get out from under that mine that I had stuck myself in almost all day. I did get a lot of work done which was nice. Speaking of work, I had almost forgotten why I did all that mining in the first place!
I quickly hurried back to finish off the fence I had started. The traveling was exhausting, but I knew I needed to at least get some of the work done. That way I had something to work with next time around when I decide to finish the fence off. I'll need to do it soon however, time is ticking and winter isn't waiting.

Not wanting to make any mistakes I took my time with the fence. Earlier I had sawed out some planks, shafts to hold up each post as I hammered them into the ground, and of course the nails which I made in the mine today. It was all coming together nicely.
Before I knew it the work had almost payed off. I didn't get a whole lot done than I had liked, but it was a start. Not bad for a good days worth of work and on top of that I got to explore the surroundings a bit and meet some new people. I'll probably clean up before I have supper.
It was getting late and the sun was setting already. Exhausted, I took a moment to step back and admire my work. I know it didn't look like much but it was my work. I was looking forward to more in the future and I hope you are too!

Hey steemitgaming,
thanks for the comment and yes I love this game. It's very nostalgic, glad you liked my post. Followed your page.
thanks man! much love!
Neat! I used to play WO in the distant past and had some great times. I recently started playing WU on a friend's server and was even thinking about doing a sort of play-journal here, but decided it was too much work! I'm glad to see Wurm getting some love.
Hello clweeks,
I have WU as well. I put in a good 500 hours into it and haven't touched it since. Mainly because player servers are finite in the sense that they can come and go in an instant and you'll never get it back. Obviously the same could happen for WO, however it's a lot more unlikely given it's long standing history. The other thing to note, a lot of WU server have a much faster progression system regarding skill gains and action timers. Basically at some point you experience it all and there's nothing else to do. I like to PvP in wurm and thats something many player owned servers avoid.
Thanks for taking the time to read, glad you like it :)
This is a brilliant post thank you for bringing this to our
