Exactly as you said - true content doesn't get any chance of spotlight in these circumstances which is increddibly frustrating as both the site and the community keep stressing original quality content, especially to newcomers like me, but a lot of what I see is everything but that.

Us smaller legit people get drowned in all the spam and I too have been wondering whether or not I truly wish to invest my time and effort into this site.
The future is uncertain.
I will continue for now, hoping things get better, but I already feel quite demotivated as the post I put the most work in (a long-ass essay) got the least payoff since it barely got any views at all. And I despise the thought of trading or otherwise trafficking upvotes - it feels empty and dissappointing.
Who is in charge anyway?
isn't there some goddamn administration to this website that could take care of this bot cancer? If not purge it entirely, at least circumsize the shit out of it?

So whats the solution? Why would anyone spend time working hard here for peanuts when whales or whatever are up voting and funneling money to themselves? If people are just after market trading gains, let them buy steem on an exchange. They should not be able to basically bribe upvotes and steem from whales which are supposed to be earned rewards, not paid shares. If they want to invest, they should do it in there market, not gobbling up hard work earnings. I'm not even 2 weeks in and now I understand why I was told to avoid this platform and not waste my time. I'm going stick around for at least a little while because FB is soul draining, there actually IS good content and community here, and I need a work from home prospect even if it only nets me 10-15 bucks a month. Even posting everyday that STILL seems like an unlikely amount with all this drama. Additionally, this internal economic power struggle will hurt the market value dissuading small investors, dropping price, so even more whales can swoop in to manipulate the crypto currency. Decentralized didn't work for the dollar, doesn't appear to be working here.
Most of us have very little practice living in a free society. This was an experiment.

I am enjoying watching it play out. There are also a lot of people who are earning more than they would earn on Facebook.

However, I admit, I can not imagine putting big money in the system to be distributed by our current whales. No thank you.

It's the human condition - it would work if we mercilessly weeded out the psychopaths, but hey - that would be fascist wouldn't it ? So we end up with fascist systems for EVERYBODY instead, or call them centralized. Some may be milder or more "socialist" (egalitarian) than others, but that doesn't really make a difference. Humans are bad social animals who need rules and strong laws. The West is right now disintegrating because its laws are weak, so they will be replaced with Sharia.

Yes, I do agree with the fact that human beings can be vile sometimes and lawlessness increases this. Here is the thing though, too much harsh or unnecessary laws end up enforcing negative reinforcement which will lead to the same result. There as to be a balance. The whole point of steemit is to bring fought positive reinforcement, make good content and be active to reap the benefit. Some people took advantage of this and have to be stopped by us finding democratic paths like contacting the other 'whales' and asking them to step up. Most of the people at the top helped create or grow this app and do not want to see it fail

Wow, first of sharia is a rule of law for muslims and is not what fox news say. Sharia law does not mean kill and rape or whatever you have been brainwashed to think it is. So what you meant to say is islamophobia notxenophobia. Xenophobia is the hatred or fear of people from other countries. Also the video you showed is just videos of some stupid individuals going on a rampagne. You can't be sure they are muslim and even if they are that does not mean its sharia or that's how all muslims act. I could post a picture of a white man shooting up a school and say this is why we don't need white men but that would be ignorant and wrong. Not all white men are school shooters, not all black people are gang members, not all mexicans are drug dealers, and not all muslims are terrorists. Please be informed before you speak.

Many of the people in that video are wearing the Algerian flag, most likely they are Muslim. You can hear people yell 'Allah' throughout the video. I just posted this to illustrate that religion(s law) is not the solution for anything. I guess I did mean to say Islamophobic and not xenophobic but thats beside the point.

But that is the thing, people causing chaos is not sharia. Please do your research of what sharia is and also the west is not being replaced by sharia, it has being drenched in Christianity too much for that to happen. 60% of American would vote for a muslim president compared to 93% voting for a catholic president. Even if we were to have a muslim president, there is sometime called laws and politians, and there are judiatiary processes that would stop something like that from happening. But please do some research on sharia, some nonbias research. I know there are some assholes that are committing horrendous acts and trying to use religion, I understand. Those people make me sick too, but please let's not use them to justify ignorance and bigotry. Love and peace to everyone
Yes, I have done extensive research on the subject and I am adamant that Sharia is not something I want. Nor any other religious law. But since you are such an expert on the subject, and called me a fool because I chose to spoke out on it, why don't you elucidate us with your great stores of knowledge and "nonbias research?"

Workers have always been exploited. I don't know of any system that hasn't done this. When we go to 'work', the employer underpays us for our talents so that he scims a profit. If the workers abandon him, he just sets up shop somewhere else. They'll ride the gravy train until the wheels fall off.
Decentralization to the point of saying "here it is, do what you want with it", will eventually get people killed. There will always be people who think differently about things. We need someone "centralized" to use the system to say whether something is allowed or not. People can then talk about it all they want and come to whatever conclusions they want, but in the mean time, those that are literally getting rich by abusing the system will come to an end.
As it stands, anyone with a bunch of email addresses and some time can strip the reward pool for junk posts.
I am starting the think it is time to start powering down.
People get killed in controlled economies as well.
good luck getting new members when people learn members are being killed because someone didn't like their post for any one of a few hundred reasons. yeah, I think with all these grown ups running the show it is time to power down and move on.
