Autumn Storytelling
One of my more favourite activities in the fall is sitting around a fire with a drink and other people. Well, actually, the other people are optional, but in this case it makes for a nice evening.
I like storytelling. Storytelling around a campfire is a tradition that reaches back thousands of years, and is a wonderful way to build community and social bonds.
Storytelling by sharing old folk songs makes that even better, and that is what I got to experience Friday night.

Yes, yes you must! It's a wonderful way to spend an evening.
Ahhhhhh, what life was like before the television set.

and for me it includes alcohol!
It does sound like a more interesting way to spend an evening compared to just sitting in a sofa scrolling an endless feed of (probably not-so-useful) posts! And hey, the people that joined in are sometimes the soul of the activity, it just doesn't get as fun without others :)
It really is a good time, and the singer was really good at engaging the audience. And there's something enjoyable about the aroma of a campfire too.
This is great! A joint passed by would make it complete for me!
Yes!
Reminds be of backyard BBQ's with the neighbours growing up.
Don't see much of that these days.. kinda sad really. Cool to see your still out there doing it!
found you through #PYPT
Exactly! It's a very fun, community building thing to do. Even for introverts (like me), it's easy to simply sit there, enjoy the fire, and listen to stories.

Thank you very much!
It looks like a lovely evening. I love a drink around a campfire myself, but I'd feel pretty funny sitting there and telling a story to myself. Thanks for showing it to us on #pypt
Hahaha. Some of my best conversations are with myself!
Howdy sir wwwiebe! Who is singing? What kind of folksongs?
I don't remember their names, unfortunately, but it was a husband/wife pair. They were fun. They sang folk songs that were both serious and funny, such as a thieving miller and his daughter who both eventually get hung by the authorities (I know, morbid, but it was a funny story as to how they got there), or about a soldier who was being woo'ed by a woman who kept giving him gifts until he finally admitted he was already married and had children. :)
Oh how interesting! Where was this at? you were just wandering by and decided to join them? lol.
LOL! No, I didn't just happen to wander by. This was a scheduled function, and a fun one too!
oh ok, you didn't crash someone's cookout or anything! lol.
