Spring is on its way. Time to get to work!
After a long rest through the winter, it is now time to rejuvenate Mother Earth and bring new life to this planet. As the death of fall starts to decompose, it releases nutrients for the living. The snow has brought sacred water to the land to cleans and quench it's thirst.
As we approach the spring equinox in 3 weeks, the shift from darkness to light makes itself known. The sun now fills the sky to bring its energy and warmth. It is the energy of the sun that will melt nearly two feet of snow and it is that same energy that my wife and I will work all summer to capture as much of it as we can. We use some technology to accomplish this task ...
but we always rely on what Mother Earth has provided for us all these generations. It has proven resilient, persistent and prosperous!
Our animals will help us capture the suns energy as well, so we all work together to bring forth life as the season is short and the winters are long and cold.
Now that a whole month of -30C wind chills is over, we emerge from our winter slumber, brush off our work gloves and we get to work. As a result, the land nourishes our bodies, shelters them and quenches our thirst. Our bodies are the land and as spiritual stewards, it is our job to protect the health and well being of the land for at least 7 generations.
Creator & Mother Earth, I thank you for another season and may your bounty provide all that we need. May this journey influence others to do the same as they realize how dependent they are on evil men. May we all work to bring peace into our relationships as we explore what it is like to be proper spiritual stewards of this planet. May we live in peace despite what is going on around us.

Brrr... a whole month? We had a few weeks ourselves of below zero temps here too but the last few days has been in the 50's and I know Mother Nature is teasing me!
Ohhhhhh, Carey is just getting started. Soon I'll be putting up hanging shelves in front of every window in the Earthship and they will be all full of plants! We start the garden and greenhouse in the Earthship. When the Greenhouse is ready, then we move them out there. When the garden is ready then they find their final spot! Only way we could grow food when we only have 88 frost free days.
Same here! My kitchen is Plant Central from now until mid-April. But I got the thumbs-up from hubby to get a second greenhouse so I am super anxious! Two greenhouses means double the fun for me!
WOW! You have a much shorter growing season than me. I have from first of May until mid to late October.
Ya, we live in an area where we could get frost any time before mid June and any time after mid August. Some years are longer, but we did have one year that was much shorter. The greenhouse saved us that year. I would love to build a second greenhouse. We want to put our entire garden space under a greenhouse. Go all indoors!
You need a high tunnel then. That would be able to house fruit trees, plants, herbs and so much more. I love going to greenhouses and nurseries here and just looking at the structures; yeah, I am envious!
Yes, you are correct. We would want something like that! $10,000 for the size we want. I would have to power down to make that work! lol One day!

Gardening that far north would likely have brought me crawling to my knees as a gardener more than the Ozarks have...here its been tempered by the tradeoff of a month extra either side of summer...time to make mistakes while learning new ways.

We have just had a bout of snow in the UK. Unfortunately the whole country seems to come to a standstill at 3" of the stuff! haha Great to see your comment that the snow melting is bringing water to nourish the land, I remember my Grandad telling me once that snow was a natural fertiliser and ground prep for planting time :) I am getting really excited now to get my seeds ready for this year! Although my reality 'smallholding' is mainly pots in the yard and growing veg in any patch of soil I can find, my heart is still working on the homestead in my dreams that can provide for the whole family one day. Preparation is key! :)
lol. Yes, I know many places that seem to shut down with even a skiff of snow. It usually takes a foot or more to cause us grief.
I pray that your gardens work out well and that one day you find a way to have your vessel return to the land upon which is rightly deserves and belongs so that it can flourish in peace and prosperity.
Your posts always set me on a peaceful state, calm me down! The last 10 days we had a very cold - 25-30 degrees. More snow fell, than during the whole winter. Today comes spring. Nature begins to awaken, the sun shines brighter and warmer. I wish your family peace, may your efforts bear fruit)
